Anyway - that Netweather 'torrential' forecast - look here - clicky - this is the 16 day forecast using data taken earlier this morning which is a huge difference from the festival specific forecast.

Which tells me one of four things:

1. The festival-specific forecast is bollocks

2. The Glastonbury-specific forecast in bollocks

3. They're both bollocks and we should wait for more detailed JACKONE info

4. The festival site will experience completely different conditions to a small town a few miles away.

I'm going for 3 right now, and will ignore both forecasts.

The Glasto forecast on the Netweather site is automatically generated - to quote Paul from that site; "One thing to bear in mind when it comes to any automatic forecast outside of 7 days is that it will tend to jump about a bit, so best to a. not get too excited/depressed with what it's showing from run to run and b. follow Julian's [JackOne's] blog, plus the written forecast which will appear on that page alongside it as they'll present a more balanced and view taking a wider range of info into account!!"

Apparently its all to do with the jet stream which is pulling low pressure our way.

This should shift pre-Glasto as its current position is way south than normal - i'm crap with links but if anyone can put one in for the jet stream, it may explain what i'm talking about.

From my experience of going to Glasto and memories of the good and bad weather years.

If it's too nice in the few weeks before Glasto, it's usually ended up turning crap just before, and ends up cold and rainy. And vice-versa.

Now, at present it seems to be cold and rainy over most of the country. Unseasonably so. Here in Cambridge we've had some torrential downpours over the last few days, and it 's currently dull and cold.

I think this is good. It can't stay this crap forever, and hopefully it will improve just in time, but not too soon.

As we're getting the 2 week forecasts in range for Wednesday, here's a summary:

Netweather

Metcheck

9/10

AccuWeather

9/10

Met Office

UK Outlook for Wednesday 23 Jun 2010 to Wednesday 7 Jul 2010:

Indications continue to show a mixture of drier and brighter interludes but still with a signal of more unsettled weather at times. Rainfall and sunshine amounts are therefore expected to be around average throughout the period. Temperatures should be near or slightly below normal, but perhaps slightly above in parts of southern and eastern England.

Overall Mr & Mrs Weather God, little Ra is doing OK, but really needs to apply himself over the next two weeks if he's going to pass the exam.

Bloody hell, you don't look at a thread for a few days and look how the tide can turn (quite literally today in the midlands) let me add to the fast decreasing VOICES OF SANITY around here.

Light cloud cover????? Light drizzle???? :O (apologies for the use of language here, but this is what I've been driven to) ;)

Can you see what you've already done with your words here, look out of the window, the lovely, cider drinking, lay on the grass, Ray Davies in the afternoon sun weather hasn't just gone away by itself you know, there's a reason for it, and I hope those responsible are pleased with themselves.

Let me tell you a story, are we sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin:

Picture the scene if you can: Beautiful Days late August 08, 4pm, lying in a field in Devon, sun shining down, locally brewed scrumpy in hand, pile of firewood back at camp ready for guitars and songs round the fire overnight, listening to an eclectic mix of reggae and folk music, does it get any better? Well for one of our group apparently it could as she uttered the fateful words "it could do with being a bit cooler"

Now, note that this may seem quite a mild request, no mention of 'drizzle' or 'cloud cover' here, however......

Fast forward to 6pm, huddled in a muddy, sodden group, standing, water running down our necks, afore mentioned campfire a sad and distant memory. This r**n then stayed set in right through until Monday morning, meaning 5 people and all their gear sleeping in a 3 man tent as two tents got washed out. It also proceeded to bog down every car in the car par causing an 8 hour wait to exit, quite a feat for a 10,000 capacity fest, and a two day car cleaning exercise to remove the mud.

To cap it all, after complaining of chest pains all weekend, upon arriving home I was thrilled to find out I'd returned with a bout of pleurisy, which just goes to show that if the r**n can't fcuk with your spirit it will go for the body instead.

Needless to say said member of group has since been excommunicated, we don't speak her name any more, but it goes to demonstrate what these foolish words can do, however well meant their intentions. ;)B)

No r**n, no clouds, no compromise!!

Untrue. 2007 - shite weather for months beforehand, shite weather at Glastonbury.

I am confident that we're not going to see a repeat of that.

We want a repeat of 1995 - apparently. Not that I was there. So I call for 1995 Mk II please.

But the sun shone brightly on Kasabian with a beautiful dusk last year. Even with the best weather glasto has to offer they were....uninspiring, at best.

Weather is very much on my mind now. I have nothing but hope. Nothing but hope.

I am seriously worried about the attitude of some people on here!

"I would settle for light drizzle". f**k you!

"I wouldn't mind a few clouds" Die!

"I don't want it too hot, think of the dust" Man up f**ktards.

These people are like someone getting married having cold feet. If I am not admitted to the medical tent at Glasto dying of heatstroke, turned blue of asphyxiation from a dust cloud, i'll be severely peeved.

I am all for freedom of speech and hate censorship, but LW really needs admin rights to remove the negative weather comments on this thread, like a doctor burning away genital warts.

No R**n, No Cl***s, No M*d, No Compromise!!!!!!

your right in part it is to do with this - the current jet stream pattern is like a horseshoe that has us right in the middle of it with the loop at the bottom, with the jet so far south it means low pressure systems coming off the eastern coasts of America tend to cruise across the Atlantic at a lower point. If the jet stream is further North the lows steam through Iceland and the natural azores high influences our weather abit more with warmer high's. Thats how I understand it at its most basic form anyways
