squinna
Hi, i'm thinking about a Tipi hire. Whats the deal with them? It says i need to give the registration numbers of the people who wish to stay. I have 5 definites at the mo. Is it possible to add another at a later date? How does it work, do you get a different wristband to allow access to the tipi's? Thanks for any help!
Arkady
Also, does anyone know whether it is a problem if you want to squeeze in a seventh person? We have three couples + one. I wondered whether they might have restricted access to the tipi hire area? Thanks in advance B

scaryclaireyfairy
i have american and european friends hoping to hire one too. most of their number aren't really down with the whole camping thing. pity they won't be allowed visitors though. Arkady
I find it difficult to believe that visitors are not allowed at all, even accompanied. I've emailed the tipi-hire company to check. £140 extra per person may not be a lot for a week, when you consider that it saves carrying and erecting a tent (meaning extra space to bring booze to make the experience cheaper, as well as tons of rugs etc for comfort), gives you access to showers and a sauna, removes the risk of theft, guarantees an ace location and added comfort, etc etc. I've stayed in one before (WOMAD) and at the time said I'd never do it any other way again! Didn't turn out that way, but would love to try it at Glastonbury.

johnmcga
I thought the tipi field was open to access to everyone. I didn't have a tipi last year, and definitely walked through a field of them. Is that a different set of tipis? There were some showers and things in the middle fenced off - maybe that's what the wristbands get you into.
Arkady
its not the tipi hire company, its GFL who says... and they say no. 140 quid per person is a massive amount of money when you get an old leaky tent... and not sure where you got the romantic rugs idea... you get sweet FA... oh a groundsheet! It doesn't 'remove' the risk of theft, tho there is a pretty small risk at Glasters anyway (it ain't V). WOMAD is a different bag to Glasters and as there is sooooooo much to do there, you'd be spending precious little time at the tipi... thus really wouldn't get 'value for money'. Arkady
That was my response to your last post, not my initial or subsequent post, and I specifically addressed it to everyone else. Both of which have contained multiple inaccuracies as it now turns out. Please read people's posts before responding, this is the second time you've misrepresented me through not properly reading what I have said. The irony of instructing someone to grow up, given the tone of your posts and tendency towards infantile punctuation and swearing, is clearly lost on you. Thanks to the others for their helpful comments, I now know how to proceed! A

precious_lillywhite
I stayed in a tipi a couple of years ago, we could've had 45 people in our tipi if there was room for them theres no restrictions in particular, they don't check you in and out, its up to you, you just pay depending on the size of the tipi
Arkady
Dear oh dear. I really have no idea what on earth you are on about. I've no clue how I have "misrepresented" you - please explain? As far as I was aware, I gave my comments to your questions, and was then accused of being patronising! I am unsure how my personal past experiences can be inaccurate. I am not in the habit of 'falling out' with anybody on this site, but if you would please explain your comments then I am sure this matter can be resolved. cejx
Hi Claire Me neither. I think that if you read through those posts again you would see for yourself, but here you go: I initially asked whether it was possible to squeeze a seventh person into the tipi, and whether there was restricted access to the field. You indicated that a seventh person was not possible, due to wristbands being issued. This implying that visitors (without wristbands) could not enter the field either, as you will see from other people’s responses. In response to my scepticism you later stated that “its not the tipi hire company, its GFL who says... and they say no “. They do not say any such thing. If I am wrong please show me the evidence and I will happily recant. In fact you were wrong on both counts. Visitors can attend, accompanied by someone with a wristband, and - while not especially encouraged - under certain limited circumstances and on arrangement with the hire company the numbers of wristbands issued can be flexible (bringing children, etc). I’m sure that you wish to appear knowledgeable, however please be careful to state opinion as fact as this can be misleading. (Incidentally, have you actually stayed in a tipi at Glastonbury? Are you talking from experience, or is this second hand information presented a fact?) You then gave us some of your opinions, such as “140 quid per person is a massive amount of money when you get an old leaky tent...” etc, which I can make up my own mind on, though thank you for your insight. You then you implied that I hadn’t been to ‘Glasters’ (one of a number of areas where your tone was condescending, see also your patronising line about rugs): It doesn't 'remove' the risk of theft, tho there is a pretty small risk at Glasters anyway (it ain't V). WOMAD is a different bag to Glasters and as there is sooooooo much to do there, you'd be spending precious little time at the tipi... thus really wouldn't get 'value for money'. You misrepresented me twice, first by saying “and not sure where you got the romantic rugs idea...” – I explicitly stated that not having to bring a tent would make room for rugs. Read before you reply please. Then you claimed that I had asked for your opinion. Not so maam. following your second email of mistruths and value judgments I asked if anyone else had opinions on the tipi experience. I had already concluded that your opinion was not pertinent. I don’t mean to offend. If you don’t either then I suggest you lose the tone, and don’t state opinion as fact in the hope of appearing like a font of ‘Glasters’ knowledge. If I hadn’t been inclined to do the research myself I would have been badly misled, as others have been in this thread. Hope that helps. Rufus Gwertigan
When you're ready you can lose the patronising tone. I'm sure you will allow me to reach my own conclusions about value for money, just as you will reach yours. Here's my patronising tone: I've stayed in one before. I know what they are. 2010 will be my fifth Glastonbury, I know what that is too. The rugs will be brought by the occupants, as I explicitly said. I am asking the hire company for details as the festival website is not explict on the matter, and when the tipi field first became available for hire (when it was the other side of what was then Lost Vagueness, over the temporary road bridge) you most certainly could have visitors and more than six occupants if you so chose. Many thanks for your observations. Now if anyone does have comments on their past experiences I will be grateful. A
MrZigster
My experience of the tipi field this year was not being allowed to even take a short cut through it, despite being only just able to walk with a walking stick and having a disabled access wristband. They were 'avin' none of it. Not even just as a shortcut to The Park. The f*****s, the extra walk nearly killed me. Flip-Box
Evening folks, We've hired a tipi in a moment of madness but have no idea about how it will work! For example, do we receive an allocation of wristbands/passes when the tickets come through the post or will we need to go to a certain area to get them? Do we get to pick our tipi? At the moment there are four definites but two possibles so we can fill it if needs be but we didn't get much information on how it all works when booking. Any information would be gratefully received, as the last time I went to Glastonbury it was completely different - just ordered a ticket and that was it, no photo/registration etc. Can't wait! Cheers.
