Kasabian, MCR, The Libertines, Foos, Muse, Green Day, Blink 182, The Strokes

Now I'm not complaining (not just yet at least ) but it looks like at least three of those eight will be headlining in 2010 with the possibility that some of the others will be second-from-top - MCR, Strokes, maybe Kasabian, maybe Blink 182.

This isn't a bad thing for a lot of people: they are eight enormously popular bands who have all had considerable impact and success in the 00s. You've got some of the biggest emerging artists of the decade in there, as well as 90s acts who reached new commercial peaks these past ten years, and so they're all being rightly considered as headliners.

The thing is: could anyone else viably fit the top of the bill this coming year? Or are we resigned to having a smattering of those acts and then the guesswork begins further down the line-up?

Off the top of my head Maiden seem the obvious one left out - although I would say Sonisphere are still more likely to grab them. ACDC as well.

Not very likely but an outsider would be Kiss (new album, played Download too recently for a repeat booking)

Also Slipknot, Linkin Park and maybe Soundgarden are not off the table, but are pretty unlikely.

why do I keep seeing soundgarden's name pop up? there's been nothing to show them reuniting, apart from odd things like this: http://www.antimusic.com/news/09/june/24So...on_On_Tap.shtml which aren't exactly credible.

There's been quite a lot of talk about them reforming. More than there was about FNM this time last year.

If Kasabian or MCR get a headline slot then my rating of this festival will go seriously downhill.

Additionally, my pick out of those 3 would be : The Strokes, Foo Fighters and Muse. But I wouldn't give too much of a care about Muse.
