Last year we camped in the Dairy Field, it was excellent, except for the slight sloping ground. loved the peace and quiet. What other area with flat grounds offer the same peace and quiet, i'm to old for all the late night noise thesedays. A few years back i made a big mistake in camping very near John Peel Stage...BIG BIG MISTAKE... So don't want anything like that. as we live only about 20 miles from the site getting there early to get good spot is no problem, just need advice on were

We camped in Hitchin Hill Ground, up near Michaels Mead, up the top of the hill. Hill was a bit of a pisser but it was very, very quiet, lots of space and about a 3 minutes walk to the Pyramid Stage, toilets, water and coffee stand. (downhill that is!!). Also flood proof somewhat if it rains, which it wont.

I’ll be there next year too, if I get a ticket.

Heres the view from the tent

And the hill, not too bad, but can be rough in the heat on the way up!! Especially after a few/having walked back from the Stone Circle.

We ended up in The Dairy Ground after initially heading for Pennards and not finding a spot (arrived about 6:00pm on Weds.)

I really liked it up there and the slope was manageable. I always camp on a slight slope if possible and pitch the tent with the entrance at the bottom, that way water drains out - not in - and you sleep with your feet slightly lower than your head, well in our tent you do. Seems more comfortable that way.

Reckon we'll head for the Dairy Ground again next year.

We've been in the Wicket Ground for the past couple of years and have thoroughly enjoyed it. Far enough away from the madding crowd, secure and with good neighbours and not too mad/busy either which is handy. Prior to that we were in the Hitchin Ground until they turned half of that into a Family area. Importantly it's close to Pedestrian Gate A so is easy to get your kit into and to leave.

There's as good enough slope to the ground to make sure any major water drains quickly away as well, although the bottom of the field got rather boggy in 2007. Wicket Ground has easy access to the Pyramid & John Peel Stages although now they've moved the cinema the walk back isn't as much fun as it used to be.

Euurgghhh this is starting to get all a bit Estate Agentish for me :-)

We stayed in Park Home this year - right in the middle of the field.

It was a great location - a short stroll to The Park & The Other Stage. The trek to John Peel & Dance World wasn't that bad, nor was the trek to the Pyramid.

Being so close to the railway line is ideal - a fairly easy stroll to Shang-ri-la, Jazz World and Avalon.

We're not going in 2010 but would stay there again.

Hi First timer

Looking for a place to camp which is a little bit quite (52 years old) but young at heart). This if my understanding is correct is either the south west or north west being the Dairy Ground or the wicket ground.

Does anyone recommend any other areas ?

Many thanks Andy

i stayed in dairy ground this year, it was my first glasto and i thought it was great, was quiet enough when i wanted to sleep, was only a couple of mins walk to the breakfast bar and a coffee stand with proper ground coffe - i even used the portaloo on the sunday night and it was clean! all our neighbours really friendly and were hoping too meet up with some in 2010.

it was close to other stage which was good for me as thats where i spent alot of my time when i wanted to watch bands.

it didnt feel like it was on a slope to me, maybe we just lucky and managed to pick a good spot

hope this info helps :P

The first time we went was in 08, and we managed to get a really good spot of Top Webb Ash, about half-way up the hill and had an excellent view over the Pyramid, and was near an ice cream van.

This year we aimed for a similiar spot, but because we got stuck in the traffic and arrived around midnight on the Wednesday night, we couldn't get a spot there, so we ended up further along just across the road from the family field, near a hedge and a gate. We thought it was pretty terrible at first (pitching in the dark at 1am in a cramped space isn't the best start), but it turned out to be really good. Quiet, out the way, and nobody could walk past our tent so we didn't have to worry about any damage or anything. However, we did miss waking up overlooking the Pyramid, so we might aim for our old spot again next year.

They've done a lot of work to guard against flooding in future, but the site is in a valley, so if you're worried, avoid the central parts. I think the worst flooding was at the bottom of Pennards in the past but if you go to the top end of Pennards or the Dairy Ground you should be fine.

There was a good article with photos on Glastoearth which covered this. I'd suggest you check it out.
