t in the park has gone downhill with this announcement. if they play reading and leeds then that would make me lose a lot of respect for the festival. ive always wanted to visit it due to its unique line ups.

mind you kol last year wasnt imaginitive at all. better band than kasabian though

There needs to be a headliner bigger than two of those. This year proved it doesn't have to be a "heavy" band with Radiohead but they will almost definitely have a headliner with a huge back catalogue play (see: Radiohead, Metallica, Pearl Jam, RHCP, Maiden, etc.)

Maybe R.E.M. could do it? Would be suitable for Sunday headline as long as the line-up gradually gets heavier down the bill (to eliminate the moaning!).

R.E.M.

The Flaming Lips

Pendulum

Biffy Clyro

Jimmy Eat World

Gallows

Something along those lines?

lol i know you're a big rem fan, but them and the majority of the r/l audience have nothing in common, other than they like music.

Who says it'll be an act with a massive back catalogue? This year showed how much things have changed. The crowd for radiohead was like that of an afternoon band, not saying this is a bad thing but i'm usually shocked if i can walk up to the front to watch a headliner. The only band around of that magnitude next year is ac/dc, who apparently have no interest in playing festivals that arn't metal festivals.

REM are a great shout, they did T in the Park so why not? Besides every year there is a headliner slightly out of the blue - nobody expected Radiohead, The Killers, Red Hot Chili Peppers or Pearl Jam really. I expect to be surprised this year and i think that band will be REM, Foo Fighters or AC/DC

Lithium, I know you said lets not get bogged down with who is and isn't in the dear god no section, but you listed Franz, their day in the sun is long gone, they'll never headline a major festival again, they won't even IMO play second on the bill anymore, album sales down, can't even sell out club venues on last tour, public image way down.

You can breath easy on that one! :P

Headlining the second stage against the boss is like being 2nd from top on a main stage, and also bloc party and the prodigy headlined the 2nd stage at glasto this year as well, so franz could still easily play 2nd from top

u guys are saying the same sorta think people on the T threads are saying but i dont see why kasabian are such a dissapointment, they will be immense live and thats what u want, how many times have u seen a big huge band and they have been shite live, i saw RHCP at hampden and they didnt even play uder the bridge, people just want a big band so they can say, ive seen a big band but what u want is to see a gig that will stay with u forever, no?

People just don't want them to headline because their debut album is under ten years old and they get labelled as "Indie". :P

These sort of people would have feared the likes of The Stone Roses or Blur headlining ten to fifteen years ago!

Also, someone mentioned this gig "sticking with you". Definitely. Kasabian are one of the biggest bands in the UK. When they split and your kids long for a Kasabian reunion, you can tell them you saw them at the top of their game, much like when your Dad saw the Stone Roses!

I think it ultimately boils down to:

The Unlikley

(Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam, AC/DC, The Cure, The Libertines)

The Very Very Unlikely

(Pixies, Rolling Stones, REM, Black Sabbath/Ozzy Osbourne, Kiss, The Who)

The Booked elsewhere

(Green Day, Muse, The Strokes(not ruled out of playing, just headlining), Iron Maiden (in theory), U2)

The Dear God No!

(Razorlight, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Franz Ferdinand, Guns N Roses)

Probably forgetting a few so feel free to chime in (let's not get bogged down in who are and aren't in the "dear god no" section)

I dont mind Kasabian, but headlining would be very disappointing. Everyone has seen them several times over these past 5 years. Kind of why i didnt like KOL headlining this year. I just care about seeing them no more. Especially when im paying £200
