Hard Rock Calling 2010

I have been to V festival numerous times in the past and it's fairly easy to sneak your own booze into the arena. Can you sneak booze in at hard rock? Do they pad u down or just search your bag?

Been wanting to see pearl jam since 92, so once I get to the front I don't plan on moving too much.

You don't get wristbands, but like JB110 says don't go out as they won't let you back in (I know someone who made this mistake!)

I think some of the times on the other stages may be wrong though or we have 3 acts playing at 19:00 on the Sunday!

Happy Birthday for whichever day it is on the weekend, have a great time!

Last year the ciders were about £3.50 I think so £4 could be right, also the £4 burger is what we were paying at Download and its the same events company. I think I will have to miss the England game to watch Costello afterall I paid to see great music not watch a plasma TV. Besides if its like Download they flash the score up on band changes.

There will be standpipes but take an UNOPENED 500ml bottle of water (friend had one confiscated as opened bottle of orange) with you and you should be ok to avoid paying shed loads. I will be taking 4 bottles of water to the hotel with me and a different one per day (ASDA prices are a damn site cheaper than £2 each).

anyone go yesterday? thoughts?

thought gaslight anthem and the hives were good fun, really really impressed with ben harper - 'underpressure' with vedder was superb. as for pearl jam, awesome as usual, been wanting to hear 'red mosquito' for a while so good to hear that, 'betterman' and 'black' were absolutely epic, it kind of went a bit flat around the time they played 'not for you', that clash cover and the new song though :/

setlist for yesterday

Given To Fly, Why Go, Brain Damage, Corduroy, Got Some, Once, World Wide Suicide, Small Town, Amongst The Waves, Even Flow, Unthought Known, Nothing Man, Arms Aloft, Not For You, Of The Earth, State Of Love And Trust, Do The Evolution, Wasted Reprise, Better Man/Save It For Later

Just Breathe, Red Mosquito w/Ben Harper, Black, Porch

Go, The Fixer, Alive, Yellow Ledbetter

-------------------------------------------------

i'll get the negative out the way first. the crowd was pretty awful. at first we were in front of one of the camera crains towards the middle and there was a huge crowd. people just barging past and not even aknowleging you. people getting pretty angry and aggressive. we then moved right back to kinda level with the mixing desk and things were a lot better. lot of people on the pj message board moaning about the setlist being not varied enough, personally thought it was brilliant - festival setlist. also folk moaning about sound. everywhere i was, it was fine but that's always the risk with outdoor gigs

saw the hives first - i am not a fan of these guys on record at all. music is pretty dull IMO but i thought they were great live, good fun and that guty pele is very funny. great band to get things going

ben harper was brilliant as well. i would have prefered if he'd done a more career spanning set rather than sticking to the relentless 7 stuff, but it was still great. eddie vedder and ben harper dueting on under pressure - canny grumble at that!!!

went and saw gomez, who were again amazing ( as they always are). never understood why they weren't bigger. they played lve is better than a warm trombone which i my fav gomez tune - wasnt expecting that.

pearl jam were amazing. been waiting 17 years to see them and it was worth it!

i said to my burd that i hoped they opened with given to fly, which is an amazing track to start with. highlights were why go, amongst the waves, nothing man, go and state of love and trust. along with red mosquito with ben harper on lapsteel slide. and i have to say black was amazing. i'd always liked it but never really though it was that great but its probably one of my favourites now. the band themselves were great as well. lot of energy from them as well, it almost looked like 92 again

2 weeks ago at Download the sound was awesome around all stages, so was excited to be given free tickets to see the legendary Pearl Jam.

What a shame it was the worst gig I've ever been to.

Yes, the crowd were awful near the front as people tried to push into every tiny space and throw countless bottles all around. Morons.

But that could have been redeemed - and no blame goes to PJ here unless they did the sound checks - if the music had been good. But the sound was terrible. Being outside was no excuse, the sound level was just plain bad.

Shame. Thank God I didn't pay for the tickets...

Not long since I arrived back home following my stay in London from Friday - Monday morning.

Thought that Hyde Park is not a good venue for outdoor music primarily because its too flat, and the stage wasn't high enough up to accommodate. These outdoor stages need to be on a slope so people's line of view isn't dependant on how tall the people in front of you are. I'm about 5'11 and had difficulty picking a view for Pearl Jam and Paul McCartney, the latter of which I eventually got a far better view.

On to the music - I went to the Friday and Sunday days only.

Pearl Jam were pretty good, although the crushing was bad and I had to step back out of it. It might have been better to have had an "inner circle" with a one-in, one-out policy like at T in the Park rather than the barrier down the middle we had over the weekend. The cover of Arms Aloft from Joe Strummer's great posthumous album was pretty good.

The Hives were excellent, and I quite liked Gaslight Anthem despite not knowing any of their stuff. Missed them at T in the Park last year because their time got changed and they clashed with Seasick Steve.

Disappointed with Elvis Costello - no Oliver's Army or Pump It Up. Crowded House were good entertainment.

I stumbled into the tent for Joe Echo and was quite impressed. Gomez were on top form - saw about 2/3 of their set before going to Pearl Jam.

Paul McCartney was fantastic to close the weekend off for me. I don't own any of his records but knew just about every song. *Almost* as many pyrotechnics in Live and Let Die as I saw at a Kiss gig in Glasgow the other month.

Went to all 3 days, and it was incredible. Possibly the best weekend of my life.

Too many highlights to name, the only acts I didn't enjoy were Mary Mary and James Morrison, the most boring man alive.

So many lump-in-my-throat moments over the whole weekend... "Under Pressure" on Friday... Stevie walking on on Saturday... "Something" on Sunday... The fireworks.

Just a breathtaking weekend FULL of legendary music and the legends themselves.

Might go see Elvis Costello again this week in Glasgow, he was outstanding.

Hope I get the chance to see the others again sometime too, especially Stevie, CSN and Pearl Jam.

What a weekend!!!!!!!!!!! :D
