Amanda Knox was today found guilty, along with her boyfriend, of the murder of Meredith Kercher.

Any who's followed this over the past couple of years may well be aware of the spin that has been put on this trial of an all American girl victimised by the corrupt Italian judiciary by the American media...

For example: Clickey

To be fair, in media terms, this was always the battle of the American right, who view Knox as the second coming of Christ, on one side, verses the Daily Mail et all on the other side who have happily painted Knox as the devil in carnate (I seem to recall a story about her shagging a stranger on a train on her way to her Italian uni...).

I have been loving Americas reaction from the start to the end of this trial...

"Pretty" (??) Blonde WHITE American girl accused of murder in a foreign land.... Americans are only ever going to react one way. Of course she is not guilty...

Just like Louise Woodward was not guilty ?

I remember a similar and incorrect reaction in this country towards Louise Woodward. Young girls can be killers.... Deal with it America...

Its funny to see via twitter how its a massive race issue in America. A lot of black people correctly pointing that if she was black the media would be reacting very differently.

I can't say I've read much about the American angle of this case, but I did feel for the victim's family during the trial - how would you like the person accused of killing your daughter plastered all over the papers like a celebrity pin up?

If she wasnt a convicted killer, you would certainly consider it :P

Seriously now, the trial was a disgrace. I dont think it was fair to anyone, defendants or victim. One of my mates pointed out that in this country we have the Contempt of Court Act of 1981 which would have prevented the hugley biased way the media treated this case. That doesnt exist in Italy, clearly.

I don't think you can realy read too much into the conviction given how dodgy the trial was and the lacking of evidence in certain places.

I'm not saying she's innocent or guiilty, just that nobody will ever probably know under the Italians system.

In that way, the US media are right in exposing the faults, maybe wrong in claiming her innocence, but still right in raising concern.
