If in doubt over which song you like best LW, buy one of each. That's what I'm doing. That's what us true music fans are doing.

ampersand is totally correct in this thread.

I dont know the campaign is trying to achieve. Does anyone really care anymore? Seriously, how many people are actually going to care on Boxing Day, and is it going to make the X Factor winner disappear any quicker from public view? Of course not.

As can often be associated with these kind of campaigns, the element of choice vanishes and they quickly turn into something they are supposed to be fighting against. So, have these people considered that hundreds of thousands of people will buy the single because they like the song and have enjoyed the programme? Is that such a bad thing? Is these peoples enjoyment harming people in any way shape or form? No, of course not. Has anyone, bar the Rage hardcore (if they exist, I cant imagine any devotees being old enough to be considered hardcore, as I assume that everyone just grows out of it) ever got so passionate before about chart positions? No, of course not. But for this one week, apparently it matters, even though it will all be forgotten come New Years Day.

There's a horrible element to this campaign which in many ways reminds me of Love Not Riots and there dispicable attempts to act as a general voice for festival goers everywhere. Before the group was yanked down, the people in charge had decided that next years song would be by Sex Pistols. Its almost Orwellian in how they have become what they are supposedly fighting?

At the end of the day, I dont care about the charts. If my little sister wastes a pound on the X factor single, i really couldnt give two f**ks. I'm certainly not going to waste a pound buying a song which is arguably the most hypocritical corporate record ever made because of some stupid campaign. Right now, I'm going to finish my marking listening to The Joy Formidable album. Next sunday when the charts are announced, I'll be in the pub with some mates before Pet Shop Boys, and come Christmas day when Top of the Pops is on, well, to be honest, wouldnt mind getting some Left 4 Dead 2 going on with some people from the next gen consoles thread!

The choice of song is actually pretty much perfect, in terms of giving it a chance of success. Rage are a rather well respected band by most 'alternative' music lovers, and quite a few people who don't know Rage will at least have heard the song at some point. It's catchy. And of course the lyrics appeal to those too stupid to see the irony.

I can't think of any other songs with a perceived 'f**k you capitalism' message that would have done better. I'd have gone for Fugazi or someone though.
