thomasowen
Tom - if you're trying to argue that The Cure would headline the NME tent not the main stage I disagree but alright, there are points to be made there, can almost come close to being swayed on that, that they'd be offered it maybe at least - but if you're seriously suggesting that The Cure could play the fest and sub Blink 182 then I'm at a complete loss. Sorry, that sounds patronising but still its The Cure! They're a legendary band who don't play that often. There is very little chance of them actually playing Reading ye, but if they did theres absolutely no chance of them subbing anyone. Commenting on the original post and a couple of comments after now - Daft Punk in the dance tent is almost as silly as The Cure subbing Blink - My Chem are gonna be subbing or if the new album does well maybe even headlining sadly Not gonna make a fuss about other ordering issues. Interpol I'd love to see headline the tent this year, bit rubbish last time on main - still hoping The White Stripes are back together next year, seem the only logical 'indie' headliner. rexclark
I would say The Cure would be a bigger draw than The Pixies were and would appeal to a wider audience.
Vieuphoria
They are.. They are huge. They don't get it.
Vieuphoria
Them playing below blink is more likely than them headlining, but neither would happen so it doesn't really matter. My point is that they would never be offered the headline spot at this moment in time, their legend status is not important, if bands headlined on former glories only then you would have Morrissey, Ian Brown, The Zombies, Bob Dylan etc headlining. rexclark
I think there's also the fact that The Cure have alot of big hits. They could play and even a casual fan such as myself would know most of the songs.
Vieuphoria
Kylie Minogue cant headline R&L.

rexclark
You don't get it mate, you live in an imaginary land If you think The Cure are huge - Kings of Leon are huge, the cure are not. If the cure had split up ages ago and got back together they would headline, but they didn't. Also they festival has changed a lot over the past 5 years, I'm not sure the pixies would headline today, even if they had reformed.
Vieuphoria
They would get a huge crowd for people who see the Cure have been announced and buy tickets. It won't happen but i actually really want The Cure to headline now. Edited December 16, 2009 by Vieuphoria
thomasowen
I still think they could headline, wether or not they'd get a decent crowd is another thing entirely.

scottt
They headlined Coachella. You and your other pop loving Blink 182 friends might not like them, but they are huge!. Dare I say it, but people like you are the ones that have cheapened the Reading name. Pixies deserved to headline. f**king end of.

rockinthecasbah
I didn't say they didn't deserve to headline, I said with Reading the way it is in 2009 they probably wouldn't headline again. Do you notice the different words, in different order, with different meaning???
beau1
Firstly I keep saying I am a Cure fan and would love them to headline. Secondly if they are so popular why did their new album only reach number 32? Should we call every band who's album only reaches that position 'huge'? Bands who get number one albums don't even need to be huge anymore, so if a band can't even reach the top 20 then thier glory days are behind them. thomasowen
Different kettle of fish but Neil Young's last album didn't make the top 20, he's a legend (albeit bigger than The Cure) but he still headlined both IOW and Glastonbury. Current Album sales don't really matter at festivals, if an act was or is huge then they will be booked. The Pixies a couple of years ago, the festival may have changed (or not) but they were still booked as headliners and I'm willing to bet that The Cure could have done the same back then or today. I'm not saying its going to happen with The Cure at Reading, but i'm not going to say its impossible. In 2005 The Cure headlined Benicassim and Sziget as well as a few other festivals around europe on the back of an album that barely scraped the top 10, they performed these festivals with a totally different lineup than they had recorded the album with. When it comes down to it, they were booked due to their legendary status, not the current goings-on in the band. Also, more wood for the fire. The Cure's most famous album Disintegration is due to be released in a special 3-CD remastered edition on Feburary 16th.
rexclark
Isn't that true of any band?
