Things that annoy you ?

Can only go off your posts but it seems the wooden floor is the root cause of the problem. I seriously doubt he is jumping up and down just to piss you off etc. And you can't really stop kids being kids...

What type of person lived up there before him ? Us men are bit more heavy footed to be frank...

Yes... Everything I am saying to you is based on what you have posted. It seems you haven't a clue what is causing the noise or if he has the ability to keep it down...

Can't stop kids making noise...

Blokes are usually heavier on their feet..

Wood floor...

If he is making a lot of noise just by walking around then their isn't much he can do. Its hard to believe he is jumping up and down all day just to piss you off.

Well you might not believe me, but confrontation actually makes me really anxious, I can handle situations if someone confronts me, but I hate being the one to bring up issues. The thought of it makes me feel sick and my heart was racing when I was knocking on his door. I was really polite ans afterwards actually thought I was a bit too polite about it.

Why is that relevant though? If I did have a go at him, would that give him the right to continue making noise?

Exactly. I don't blame the kids, they will do whatever they can get away with. It's the guy's fault. I can hear the kids running up and down, jumping and screaming, I wouldn't mind it now and again, they're just being kids and enjoying themselves. But when they're staying with him at the weekend, I dont think that's acceptable to be going on from 7am until midnight. In a way I feel sorry for them because it seems like he doesn't take them out.

the day after I moved to a new house we had the neighbours round to complain about how disturbed they'd been by the noise the day before.

A few days later I was banging in a nail to hang a picture, and they complained.

A few days later I was tacking a cable around the wall at about 2pm on a Sunday and they came round again. I pointed out that they'd woken us by having a screaming row at 2am the previous night and they said "that doesn't count, that was an exceptional circumstance", and continued to say I shouldn't make any noise.

I said to them that if they could tell me how to bang nails in quietly, I'd happily do it.

They stormed off in a huff, threatening to complain to the council, with me saying "go ahead, I'll look forwards to the council getting in contact". I've heard nothing from the council.

They've not complained since, but then again they've had no reason to complain since. Hopefully they've now woken up to the fact that they're the inconsiderate morons and not me, but it's more likely they're thinking that their complaining has had the desired effect, that's how big a moron they are.

To be fair to them I did something wrong at the start. I forgot to tell them the start date of the work (had WAY too much going on at the time including an ill child, he was back and forth from the hospital) so it all blew up over that when the work started and they didn't know it was going to. I had shown them the plans and asked them for their thoughts etc. But I apologised from the heart, and meant it, but it doesn't seem like enough to repair relations which is a shame. I don't really care if we are friends or not but I want to be at least be able to say hi in the morning when set out to work and feel we can approach each other about x,y and z. All feels frosty to say the least now.

We had really bad noisy neighbours in London. We were on the ground floor and we had 5 male German students living above us who were there for a year and basically didn't give a shit. Wooden floors, no sound proofing, mid week all night parties with my girlfriend having to get up at 6am to go to work.

I really feel for you. Its a horrible thing to have to deal with.

We tried the diplomatic polite route and it got us nowhere. They just thought we were a soft touch. So in the end we turned to the council. They were really good actually. Immediately sent out a letter saying any further complaints and they would investigate and could be fined £10000 etc.. it shut them up pretty good. They then got worse again but by that stage our lease was up and we were moving out.

Speak to the council, they will try to help. Best of luck

People who think its acceptable to click their knuckles (or any joints they can click) while public place, like a train, or an aeroplane, or a meeting.

If that's you, its not OK. Its rude and gross and people around you hate you for it. Shut the fuck up
