Things that annoy you ?

these posts about flats mirror my general opinion of this country, we are crammed in like rats it a cage, even if you manage to get a house then life is a constant battle to find a parking space and even a drive sometimes doesn't help as someone will generally be parked opposite it and another car with its nose up against it resulting in a 7 point turn to get in and out of your own sodding house, emigration is looking very tempting

I don't see what's wrong with flats in principle. They just mean people need to be vaguely considerate and that flats need to have a vague level of soundproofing.

Emigrating to other countries, in any major city you'll be far far more likely to end up living in flats than you will here.

we have far fewer people living in flats than countries do with a much lesser population density than ours.

And this country is not over-crowded (on just a population/space view), not by a long chalk. The issue is the same as ever, that a small number of people are keeping huge tracts of land to just themselves.

the countries I've visited have built better quality structures where noise isn't such an issue, apparently our average build size also is now smaller than Japan.. the parking, limiting the number of spaces to encourage public transport use just encourages people to park like twats and prices are still up over 5 times average incomes, if I was graduating today with all that debt id be out of here..

yup - because we've had govts for over 30 years whose primary 'economic plan' has been to increase house prices by as much as possible so that individuals who own houses feel richer, which has meant minimum investment in new housing stock. If you limit the supply and the demand is increasing then prices will rocket.

And it's very definitely the govt who control house prices, via the amount of land they release for housing via the planning process.

_rachelbon, IF your noisy neighbour is a copper, may I suggest you have a word with his employers. His behaviour could technically be viewed as harrasment, especially if he's ramped up the noise since you've complained.

I really sympathise with anyone who suffers from noise pollution. A couple of nights without sleep when I need to work and I feel like sectioning myself.

This place is good for advice, solace and ranting:

£2k for an exhaust..? :O

ouch!

yup, ouch ;) .... that's the downside in running old vehicles. :(

The upside is that this spend puts an equivalent sort of value back onto the van, and that the costs of the engine change which will need doing sometime in the next year or three will be a tad cheaper and easier ... tho that will still set me back something over £2k too.

But once those two things have been done the van should be good for another 25+ years. It could be worse. ;)

Psychics are really pissing me off.

My family has been grieving over my Mum's death a few months ago and have been going to see a psychic to contact her. They keep trying to get me to go even though I've said before I don't believe it's real and the guy they are seeing told my Mum predictions like she will be cured of cancer which were proved wrong and I having to grin and say suff yes that's nice when they have "talked" to her which is really annoying as I use to tease my Mum about believing in all of this.
