first time to Glasto and we have decided to do it in a camper. due to the fact we have 4 girls who have never been to a fest before.

what do you do about power for the camper? iread that you are not allowed to take generators, what would you use instead? thick question i know!!

also i have read that you get different campervan tickets for each part. do you pick whatone you want or does this get allocated to you?

thanks in advance!!

Theoretically there are East and West Campervan fields but last year only the East operated. You get to choose when you book the campervan ticket.

Remember one of you must have paid in full for a festival ticket in order to book a campervan ticket.

There are no electric hook ups and you can't use generators but most campervans will have a decent leisure battery to keep you going. A lot of the power heavy things like fridge and cooker will be calor gas so it's really only lights and possibly a water pump.

I don't know what the rules are about switching on the campervan engine from time to time to charge the leisure battery.

We've always camped until now but in 2010 we'll be in a trailer tent, which are also in the campervan fields. The one drawback from reading other threads is that the campervan fields are outside the main festival site so there will be quite a walk in and back each night.

We may well take a small tent as well to pitch with our friends inside the main site to socialise by day and also to give us a resting place/shelter from the blisteringly hot sun we're going to have or the occasional spot of (don't mention the R-word).

Power! :P Sorry you can cross that one off the list!!

I've got a caravan, so will take 2 batteries, that will keep me, wife & 3 girls going for lights & phone charging.

Take stereo, plus batteries.

Take gas cooking/lighting equipment. I have a gas fridge that keeps my cider & bacon cold!

There are water points & waste disposal areas.

As for areas. You'll get a campervan pass, you can choose east or west parking, your choice. Main camper parking is on East, Look at the festival map & directions.

Enjoy!!

Thanks.

It will still be the first year for me in the CV fields (CV West) having bought a trailer tent a few months ago so, although a Glasto veteren as a camper, I too would appreciate any tips from those who've been in the CV fields before. Or any tips on trailer tents.

We've been to Glastonbury in a Campervan several times, and providing you are careful, power shouldn't be a problem. We take a 2nd leisure battery and don't really need to use the lights - we sit outside with candles & lanterns late into the night. The main drain is the water pump I think, as the fridge is gas.

Take a good old fashioned coolbox and pack it with pre-frozen bacon & bread etc, to save space in your fridge for other stuff.

The main pain we had was water, as the supply to the East CV fields is intermittent, and it's a pain re-filling the 'van from small containers as you can't drive to the taps. The area around the taps gets really muddy! We take solar showers, fill them up & stick them on the roof - they were really useful last year.

Can't wait.......

We have rented a motorhome 6 berth one cost us £1000, but it took me a long time to get one at that price.

motorholme.co.uk have them for £1800 that was for a 7 berth.

if you shop about you should be able to get it for less than that, thats if you can still get one. and not everywhere is booked up.

looking forward to doing it in a motorhome, done V a few times but always camped. so doing it like tis is going to be a change. we have had some stick saying its cheating tho haha.

1 Am I okay on a standard liscence

a. Depends when you took your test or renewed your current licence. See this link. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/Drive...cles/DG_4022564

2 Who insures it the owner or me

a. Check with the owner to see if they can let 3rd partys use their insurance. We have a separate policy to the car.

3 Caravanse WTF?

a. ???

4 All new to me but fancy a few creature comforts.

a. We took ours last year, a very different festival but a comfy one with hot or chilled drinks when needed!

We have a Passat and its fine for our caravan, do check your weight are okay see - http://www.whattowcar.com/

We took an Igloo cool box http://www.mobilegas.co.uk/mobilecoolbox/passivecoolbox/ froze a 7 litre ice block in a plastic container and that kept all the drinks cold for the whole festival as the fridge is quite small. Plus we took enough bacon. eggs and sausage to do breakfast every day. Self bake bread was useful too as long as you have an oven!

Enjoy!

Lots of people do run their engines to charge the leisure battery. Mostly only takes about 30 mins, but remember not to do it at anti social hours.

The main drain of the battery is the water pump, so minimise the amount of time you run the taps, flush the loo etc. and it should be fine, there should be a power meter in the van to tell you how much life is left in the battery
