thetime
yes RATM did it for the money in 2008 but that doesnt make them any different from radiohead,KOL and arctic monkeys who played last year.just because those bands have never split up doesnt make their motives any different. rivalschools.price
but ratm made a whole career of giving there political views on record, the other have not. pink_triangle
I don't think that's always the case. May not be a great example to use on this particular board, but just look at Take That. I personally think there better now than they were first time round.

charley
what evidence do u have that these bands didnt get back together for the money??? as you said, they still sold out big venues, just because they got paid less than RATM doesnt mean they didnt do it for the money. Lithium05
you cant blame people for being happy if their favorite band gets back together after splitting up ):
thetime
Sorry if I've got this wrong. But surely if that were true they would have done their own tour for maximum profit, rather than just a couple of festival shows. Vieuphoria
I love them, and it would be brilliant. Anything other than Headlining main would be stupid.
rivalschools.price
i can only speak on a personal level but ive been going to gigs for over 20 years and if someone had asked me in 2006 if i thought id ever see smashing pumpkins, faith no more or RATM again id have said there is absolutely no chance whatsoever.as we all know, all three re-formed and played the festival over the next three years and i was front row for all three and had a great time(in the case of RATM and FNM i thought they were better than first time around) i believe there is far more people like me who cant believe their luck that their favorite bands have re-formed than people who dont want them to get back together(out of interest, how many of the people slating the reformations were even fans of blink, pumpkins,RATM or FNM the first time around?) if soundgarden get booked for this year i can guarantee that i'll be there at the front and having a ball. theramm
I could be wrong but dont headliners make more from festivals than doing there own shows? remember most groups dont put on there own shows but promotors/management companies and just get paid from them. jordanuk90
I really don't wanna get too much into the "for the money" debate but when bands I haven't seen reform and give me the chance I plan on taking it and IF they are doing it for money then they are welcome to mine as I haven't seen them before and would really like the chance to even if they are a little different to the band I first liked and listened to. jordanuk90
And A not on Soundgarden I think they'll play Download
tomisnothere
Wasn't Melvin quoted sometime last year saying that the headliners were already booked, and that he had approached them all at 2009's festival? That rules Soundgarden out completely, unless he was only discussing one of the stages.

r0w
wouldnt worry about it, they would play 3rd or 4th top at the very best.
thetime
3rd or 4th from top??? are u on crack? Theyr being heavily linked with headlining slots at Download & Coachella festivals and u think theyl be 4th down at Reading? jesus. Yeah granted Reading is a trend festival and they would probably not headline....but they wud at least headline the 2nd stage or 2nd up from the top on the main stage.....hopefully theyl headline Download anyway
r0w
where is it rumoured they might headine download? you really think under 25's who are the vas majority of festival goers know many soundgarden songs. they wont headling download or reading, come back when the lineups get announced. they never headlined in there prime and there not going to now. tomisnothere
I don't believe Faith No More were headlining when they were in their prime, but they headlined Download and NME stage at Reading/Leeds last year. I could see Soundgarden doing something similar. I very much doubt they would be 3rd or 4th down.
