Moving From Pennards

Hello, i've decided that after 7 years of service pennards has lost its appeal. When i first camped there it was less crowded and people actually made the effort to get to know there neighbours. Last year there was no campfire friendlyness of an evening. everyone seemed to be trying to camp there because they thought it was the place to be.

For me i want somewhere to camp that reminds me of the way it used to be. Lots of groups of friendly people. Lots of campfire chats and less snobbyness and attitude. For instance last year we invited all our neighbours over to our fire and bar a couple they were all quite rude. They were all about 18 and were privately educated from the sound of them. Maybe thats why. I hate to judge and like to treat people equally but they just looked down on us. We were a mixed group to, 4 and 4 and that included 3 doctors!!!! So its not like we were a leary group of guys.

Anyway back to the point i want to be with like minded festie people. happy to share the experience. I want somewhere on the south side preferably and somewhere witha bit of life. Whats Park home or dairy ground like? Any views, opinions greatly appreciated.

We've always camped up in Home Ground. Friendly, good views - great looking across towards the Stone Circle at night. Quieter but very friendly and decent flush toilets. This year we'll be in CamperVan West but we'll still pitch a small daytime tent to join our mates in HG.

We camped in Pennards for the first time last year and were lucky to have really friendly neighbours who often joined us round the campfire so I guess it's just luck of the draw. We had another group of friends who ended up in Dairy Ground due to late arrival so we did spend some time over there but I found that campsite did not have as good an atmosphere, it seemed a lot quieter. We camped at Home Ground near the Pyramid in 2007 and LOVED the flushing toilets and people over there but the downside was we found it a bit of a trek at night in the mud to all the fun goings on. Have also camped in Dragons which we liked. We'll probably try for Pennards again this year.

I've only been to Glasto once and already I want to move from Pennards. I camped with some great people but never saw anything on the Park stage and most of my time was spent at the other end of the festival.

If I go this year, I'm going to wait and see what stages most of the acts I want to see are playing on, before seeing where is best to camp. Took more than an hour to get back to my tent some nights last year, there must be better options.

Like Helsbels said, it's luck of the draw really and you can wind up near unfriendly people wherever you camp.

Found myself next to some complete twats in Park Home in 2008. They seemed to leave at least one person guarding their pitch at all times, and even a friendly 'hello' just got met with suspicious glares. I could handle that, but being told to 'shut the f*ck up' for talking at 10am when they'd spent the night with a ghetto blaster blaring was a bit much. Personally I just go for a spot that suits me in terms of where I want to spend most of my time (which for me is Park/Other stages). But then the only time I spend at my tent is for sleeping.

Have to agree... I've been to nearly every festival since 1994 and the 'Pennards' feeling was gone many years ago for me. Camped there last in 2008 and it was just full of snobby, pretentious people who thought it was 'the' place to slum it near the park stage where they could claim they heard the new biggest thing first. I even heard one group say "'Pennards' and 'The Park' is like Shoreditch whereas The Pyramid and Jazz area is like yer townie, Leicester Square chav central... might as well stick a McDonalds over there".

I mean... this is Glasto... f**k right off with that attitude.

Hardly anyone had a camp fire in Pennards... no life no revelry. Boring. I'm back over to Big Ground for a bit of atmos i'm sad to say.

well 2009 was my first glastonbury and we camped in dairy ground and i had a great time, all our neighbours were friendly though we only really spent any time with the people camped right next to us becuase they ended up kind of gate crashing our camp on the weds night so we pretty much had to get to know them, but they were lovely so it was cool :P

portaloos seemed to be pretty clean when i used them, even on the sunday night!

i can't remember at any point thinking 'god (insert stage/area) is such a trek' we seemed to move around the site really easily and once we got the other stage we knew our campsite was only a 5/10 minute walk away

i would recommend dairy ground and i would def camp there again :P

We camped in South Park last year (and had ourselves a time!).

It was nice up there, although admittedly quite a trek from the action. There's only portaloos up there though - worth the walk to the long drops in Dairy Ground for your morning ablutions.
