Couple of Questions From A First-Timer

I'm new so be nice :P

Have a couple of questions if you could be so kind to help me...

I'm coming from Birmingham, am I better off getting the train or the coach?

If I leave stuff in my tent is it likely to be stolen?

Should I bring cash with me or use my credit card?

What kind of food is best to bring with me that won't prove too heavy?

Am I better off sharing a tent with someone or having one to myself?

Thanks guys

If I leave stuff in my tent is it likely to be stolen? doubtful just be careful and don't make it obvious what you're keeping int here and hide any valuables or use the lockers

Should I bring cash with me or use my credit card? Cash, queues for the cash machines are a pain

What kind of food is best to bring with me that won't prove too heavy? just snacks you like and buy any meals there

Am I better off sharing a tent with someone or having one to myself? depends on who with and what you prefer and whether you plan on pulling? (if you do do it early on you dont want day 4 festival sexing!)

Thanks guys

> I'm coming from Birmingham, am I better off getting the train or the coach?

Coach for sure.

> If I leave stuff in my tent is it likely to be stolen?

Unlikely, but possible. Don't leave full-on valuables there.

> Should I bring cash with me or use my credit card?

Cash.

> What kind of food is best to bring with me that won't prove too heavy?

Since you're coming by public transport, travel light. That means no food (Ok, maybe a sandwich for the journey).

> Am I better off sharing a tent with someone or having one to myself?

Depends on who the someone is. I like to have a tent to myself - since I go without my girlfriend. Obviously as a group you can save money by sharing tents (if you don't already own enough tents).

> I'm coming from Birmingham, am I better off getting the train or the coach?

Hmm depends. I always go down the day before on the train and stop over somewhere local, if the traffic gets bad then it can be a nightmare, my housemate got the coach from liverpool last year, they set off at 9am Wednesday and they didnt get onsite until 2am Thursday (due to a crash on the motorway i think?)

> If I leave stuff in my tent is it likely to be stolen?

Not likely but the year before last about 20 tents near to us got rifled, unfortunately you do get some scumbags. Anything valuable either keep on you or put in the lock ups!

> Should I bring cash with me or use my credit card?

Cash - but i didnt get it all out at once, went to the cashpoint halfway thru the festie so i wasnt carrying around loads (thieves know that people often bring the lot on the Wednesday) Cashpoints arent too bad depending what time of day you choose, i found the ones near the dance village were fine queue wise

Cereal bars/nutrigrains are handy if you get the munchies :P

> Am I better off sharing a tent with someone or having one to myself?

Like others have said, depends who your with - but remember double the size of your tent if you want to be comfy (2 people = 4 man tent)

There are plentiful stalls that do cashback now so if you are concerned about carrying around £200 on you at all times, consider buying yourself a treat and getting the extra needed fundage after a couple of days.

Tbh, the cashpoints were not too ridiculous this year (but that may have been cos where I was camped they had already run out of money or broken down!)

Safe than sorry is the best bet and the free lock ups are brilliant. If you are in any way concerned about your belongings, chuck em in the lockups and return to the bag to collect what you need daily (and put the bag in early cos they fill up quickly). Once you have an item in the lock up you can visit it, not sign it out and get it put back in its spot...well thats the way its used to be.

Never been robbed at Glasto since visiting from 95 but noone can predict what can and may happen.

Dont bother bringing food. There's a lovely cheap brekkie place next to the Growler run a local PTA, cornflakes and tea for £2 and then there is the super cheap Tea Tent (whose name I cant remember).

If you are on a GlastoBudget, feeding costs can be kept to a minimum even without bringing your own stuff in and SO MUCH brought in food is left behind by folks who thought that the beans, soup, pasta, boil in a bag meals and gazillions of NutriGrain bars would benefit. The waste is ridiculous and it all just gets dumped at the campsites.

LL is entirely right about bringing food. I always advise people not to bother.

However, I do pack in a 500g packet of crunchy oat cereal. It's great for staving off hunger first thing in the morning or last thing at night, if you're in your tent and can't be arsed to go and buy some food. You can nibble on it dry, and it's got a great fillingness and energy to weight ratio.

Get yourself a gilet to carry all your valuables. So many pockets if they get picked you'll only lose the content from one. Even better if you want to be really secure fix it with a safety pin.

Also one of our best buys last year was a toast rack that you can put on the top of a camping gas stove. Light, easy to carry and toast is such a treat. Toast and marmalade for breakfast.

All the comments on here about not having to bring food are absolutely correct, when it comes to buying something though don't just get the first thing you see when you feel a bit hungry, look around and note some places that are worth going to for the pleasure of eating wonderful food.

Curry Goat and a HUGE lamb and mint oggie were my favorites last year (not together you understand).

Having said that I always tahe a couple of disposalbe BBQs and frozen sausages, burgers etc, not required but I enjoy having a cook up while just enjoying the incredible site of the site.

Tip re: money

Although it is sensible to put your valuables in the lock ups, if you do have a large amount of cash on you keep it in different places. i.e. don't just stick it all in one purse/one pocket. I tend to spread it around - at least then if you lose some you are unlikely to lose it all.
