Sunny_State
Firstly congrats for a darn good site! Being Glasto newbies we have been awed by the amount of info on this forum but need to ask a few more questions of you seasoned folk…. Now these might be a bit ‘everyday’ but considering we are coming all the way from Oz with our two kids in tow there are a couple of things we need to know... 1. It is likely that we will need to nominate to pick tickets up over there as posting will not occur to international concert goers until three weeks before – too late for us. Can anyone tell me where these are picked up? Is it a pain in the rear to do this? And if these are picked up at a gate somewhere (gosh I hope not unless it’s the one we are planning on going in) how do we park with out a parking ticket which will be with our tickets? (might seem menial but darn important) 2. We want to buy some CHEAP fold up chairs before we get to Glasto – any suggestion on where and how much these will be? I was going to ask about wellies ($ and where to get them) but have just found a topic on this of sorts...hoping we won't need them but going to get some in case. grumpyhack
Can't help on ticket pick up. The Glasto website should be able to answer it on FAQs or contact SeeTickets direct. Fold up chairs you can buy on site at the festival, though might be a bit cheaper beforehand. Loads of places to get them including D-I-Y stroes like B&Q. You can even often buy them at motorway service stations. There is a certain amount of etiquette and even some strong feeling about fold up chairs so I suggest you trawl this site for threads on the subject. (I'm a chair fan but I think carefully about when and where I use it). Of greater cost and concern should be your tent.
ukslim
The little tripod chairs are usually about £5 on site. They're nice and portable. Folding armchairs are £10 or maybe £15. Sadly, all are cheap enough that people buy them for the weekend then dump them on site. Don't be part of this problem! I don't mind people having chairs - and I have one myself. What bothers me is when there's a huge long row of chairs in the Pyramid crowd forming a barrier, and the culprits get arsey if you try to squeeze through. spikytom
we picked our tickets up from the box office last year and it was really easy - the box office (i'm assuming there is just the one?) was on the way to pedestrian gate A, which is the main gate for everyone using the coach/ shuttle bus drop off point, and some of the car parks. Luckily we were in one of these car parks so didnt have to trek too far to get to the box office - i'm not sure what the deal is if you end up parked over the other side of the site...! You'll be fine getting into the car parks without a car parking ticket as you can buy one when you get there.

Sunny_State
Thanks all, that was nice and quick! In regards to chairs - yes we will be respectful - we have been on both sides of this one so we treat others how we would be expected to be treated ourselves - a good philosophy in life I reckon. And yes our tent was our main concern - trust me after seeing the piccys and watching Glasto on the telly for the last umpteen years we weren't taking any chances and in fact are carting our own tried and tested ones. Very water tight and whilst well ventilated - tried and tested many a time in our monsoonal weather, although if the tide comes up I figure we'll be stuffed just like everyone else in a tent. Geez we are getting excited - its soooooo hard to concentrate on day to day life sometimes when you know what is coming up!
LusciousLucy
If you are hikers, bring waterproof walking boots and get/bring gaiters. The age old wellies v boots arguments are strong on here but well waterproofed boots tend to come up trumps. If you are getting to Blighty in time before the fest, and want to stick to wellies, shop around a wee bit first. You may be surprised at the cost of some makes. You can easily pick up cheapo pairs in varying colours and patterns in the UK High St shops (and supermarkets) and remember to bring long socks (and/or leggings) to stop any chafing/rubbing that WILL occur. And for extra comfort slip in a pack of gel insoles cos cheapo wellies and a possible length of time stood up in them due to potential muddiness = ouchiness. Scrumptious comfy insoles on the other hand - extra ability to put up with welly wearing. Where you coming from in good old Oz? Is it just a Glasto visit or a part of a proper UK visit? If you are coming straight over from the Aussie Winter to the fest, the massive difference between when it gets dark is brilliant! 10pm at night and you'll be wondering if it will ever get dark compared to pitch black by 5pm back home! Sunny_State
Hi Lucy We are from the 'Sunny State' in the north east corner of Oz (and a fair way towards the top too). So I am thinking that your summer weather is going to be somewhat like our winter but with the luxury of the longer days. We have been to the UK a few times (yes I have well traveled gromets) and are actually tagging this on to a trip we are doing (we couldn't believe our luck when we realised Glasto was on at the same time AND we nearly died when we got the tickets - fancy having to be frantically on the net on NRL Grand Final day trying to get tickets!!). We expect that this will not be our last and since our eldest turns 15 two days before Glasto I am sure that he too will be experiencing this again in his own time - he is a tad excited to say the least - music, mud and mmm 'the beautiful sights' (girls). I can not thank you all enough for the advice from this post and the others I have read, it has really helped us in planning for this and is a darn good giggle.
