Not really. It would be fun to do it and see just how many leftfield people would go for it. I reckon it could result in me saving at least £5.50. Mind you, £4 of that would be mine.

Me and my wife once put on a meal for a film writers / screen'ers event which one of my brothers was organising. So, my wife swung in to action, and paid out about £130 for the food. As soon as we arrived, she thought, let them pay what they want and appreciate for the meal. To cut a long story short we got back about £20, of which was £10 from one bloke who evidently appreciated the food, but was bolloxed drunk. Which meant all the others (about 50 people) gave virtually fuck all. Ho hum!

To be on topic for once, I've been in Austin for a couple of days, queued in the scorching sun for 1 1/2 hours to see the oh sees for free in Hotel Vegas, with bars with zero queue. They fucking rocked and a girl in a panda outfit crowdsurfed!

Thanks for the support clarkete, it's greatly appreciated. However, in the clear light of day (ie. not stoned on pain relieving dope) I think it might be embarrassing - especially if the total raised ended up being under £10.

Cheers clarkete. The pain has actually abated, for now, at least. I have self confidence in certain areas, but not in others. I totally lacked self confidence when I worked for one employer for 28 years. I used to brick it on an almost daily basis wondering if this would be the day that I got found out that I was a fool. 

Anyway, thanks for the offer of donating to my would be crowd fund, it's very kind of you. I'll put the suggestion on the back burner for now, but may well come back to it. I'll certainly look in to it in more detail though, as it could be a runner. I mean, people have had others support their holiday fund in the past, according to newspapers. I'd have to think up something catchy as a title for it, to draw people in. Listen to me, getting carried away already. There's a fine line between an optimist and a fantasist, which one needs to be careful of.

You shouldn't really have to self fund, it would help you to eat, false teeth are a nightmare. They're funding a reconstruction, which at the end of the day is cosmetic.

Now the serious point made, here come the puns.

If the NHS is willing to front me the money for my implant, they should be willng to stump up the money for your implants.

I must admit that I'm a little lost on the highlighted words. I can kind of make something out with the first three words, but that must be a wrong interpretation, because there's four words.

I believe that in certain circumstances the NHS are willing to fund implants, but I think it's kind of limited to if you've mangled your whole head in a car crash or some such. Maybe a few other reasons too, but I don't know what they are. However, your post is very useful to me as a friend of mine knows two dentists (who, apparently I've met, but have no recollection of doing so!). I hadn't thought about it until you mentioned it, but I'll email my friend in a while, and ask him to contact his dentist mates. He can ask them what criteria the NHS use for funding dental implants. Got to be worth a whirl. Cheer feral. Nice one. 

As an aside I have a cousin who trained as a dentist, but got bored of it, so went off to study medicine. Then she got her medicine degree and went to work in the NHS. At one point she was drafted in as a specialist to reconstruct a major Liverpudlian drug dealers face, after he had been battered senseless with a baseball bat. Essentially she knew all the biology and the dentistry angles. Unfortunately I can't really ask her to help, because (1) she probably hasn't got access to a dental surgery etc now, and (2) I don't really want her to know that I'm missing so many teeth - she'll know instantly that it's from drug misuse, I'm sure.

Hiya Yog, don't worry, it just struck me that there has to be an implant pun in a reconstruction and tooth situation, and front and stump was the best I could come up with.

I think you could get a bridge between implants, that might keep costs down a bit.

You seem quite creative, so maybe there's a way to get money from kind of sponsorship that won't leave you embarrassed (cue my brain thinking dent(ur)ed pride)

Anyway, I don't want you to think I'm making light of it. It's no fun, I know from my own tooth problems.

My brain is flying into free association mania, so I'll stop there.

For someone who spreads a lot of kindness and happiness here it does seem to hold a sway over your own lifestyle, eating?, happiness.

Yes, and bad puns aside, they'll fund a reconstruction, which while I want and am grateful for, is purely cosmetic, and I can hide it.

I would far more appreciate getting my teeth done, as they're practical, false teeth are uncomfortable and impractical, and you can't wear a jumper to cover them etc.

I don't really see their logic.

I'm going to have a joint soon. Not because of tooth pain, but because I want one! I suspect my brain will also be flying in free association mania then.

I have had a pretty grim few years, having a stroke, I got evicted from my home of 13 years, I started to hear voices the list is endless. I took one of these guarantor loans out which was ill judged as my benefits payments meant I would often be late with repayments and they hound you for the cash and put your account in default after a couple of days. However my son, who is the guarantor, stepped in and paid the balance and I pay him back monthly. The repayments are half I was paying to Amigo so all is good

Another problem has been with my rent. We all signed as joint tenants but complicated issues have put us in rent arrears by enough for the landlord to kick us out. My brother heard about this and has cleared the balance for me until Universal Credit sort things out

Also I have a Glastonbury ticket and will be attending with my eldest as a bit of bonding time so life is good at the moment. I may not have cash but I have the family I fought for ?

Enjoyed our 10 weeks in Portugal, now back in the UK and currently working a full month in Newbury, got lots of festivals and events booked in to work over the next 6 months, before we head back over mid-October to look at buying some land there
