R.E.M.

With two of the headliners looking to be Green Day and one of Blink 182 or My Chemical Romance, how about the third headliner being R.E.M.? Green Day look set to be the Friday headliner at Reading so we'll need someone of equal or greater stature to be the Sunday headliner, and we'll also need an "Indie" headliner to balance it out, but Kasabian, The Killers, etc obviously won't do R/L '10 for one reason or another. How about it?

New album out next year, never done R/L before but aren't too shy to play UK fests, will sell a day ticket or two considering their large and loyal fanbase and will generally be epic.

It would be a great booking for the fest. They wouldn't have played for 2 years in the U.K so you would have a bit of anticipation for their return. They have had a lot of hits over their career such as losing my religon, everybody hurts, the one I love, man on the moon etc. that even the most narrow minded Leeds goer should be able to recognise a few tracks that they may not have been able to for other bands such as Metallica, Rage, Radiohead. Add the fact that the last album was a return to form been critically acclaimed and you'd think it'd be a great booking. With them working on the next album I think since last summer they would also be a band that festivals will know they may have a chance of booking. However I just can't see FR booking them, probably because the bands not young enough and it will probably be a less of a risk booking Blink and Green Day. I have little faith in the organisers to book a band outside of their box.

When did the Radiohead rumours start to appear? I thought it was earlier than this in all honesty, though I could quite easily be wrong.

REM would be a great booking, even if they're not up there amongst my favourite bands. It would show the organisers are still willing to book a headliner who might not be paticularly "in" and may not attract a huge crowd.
