Its been 3 years since RHCP have played a UK festival...

And they've got some new material coming out end of this year/early next year with their new guitarist.

I for one would love them to play again...

Would be a great surprise headliner

If they do go play, don't go see them, they were indeed awful in 2007. They looked bored at best, and when I saw them in Hampden they ended with a psychadelic jam between Flea, Chad, John and Josh.

Don't get me wrong, I like psychadelic guitar music as much as the next man, but this was the biggest bum ending to an already pretty terrible concert ever.

There's the chance that with Josh taking John's place they might return with a renewed sense of purpose and excitement, but I'm not holding my breath.

Possibly the most disappointing concert I've been to, unfortunately; up until that day I loved RHCP. Since then I've yet to listen to them again.

However...

JOHN FRUSCIANTE WOULD BE AMAZING. :P

They are my favourite band... but I havnt seen them live so I couldnt comment

One of my friends went to Leeds in '07 and said they were great live :S

Just thought they would be a good band to have headline... obviously I was wrong >.<

Their headline set in 2007 was one of the most forgettable performances that I've seen at Reading over the space of 5 years. The intro was easily the funniest and most awkward things I've seen, such a long jam then all of a sudden John Frusciante's guitar lead went, so Flea decided to make a terrible joke. Only made things more awkward for them and set the tone for the rest of their slot.

I can't believe I saw the same set as some people - was it that bad? As I can see there were only three problems -

1.) They didn't seem to be that into their performance which will always rub off on the crowd

2.) Their setlist was far, far too post Blood Sugar heavy

3.) There were A LOT of jams

As a pretty massive fan I can forgive the last two points because I actualy like By The Way and Stadium Arcadium (even though they should have played a lot more early stuff) and I also enjoyed their jamming. The quality of what they played can't really be doubted though can it? The songs they did play were amazing.

You answered your own question, not a setlist catering to a festival crowd, and they really didn't give a shit. It was just turn up, take money, f**k off to chilli island until they want to limp another album out. Don't think teasing everyone with under the bridge did them any favours either.
