Flags Banned

Ban on flags this year. http://forums.downloadfestival.co.uk/tm.aspx?m=4380096 . surprised as i didnt really think Download had a flag problem(apart from the odd 2 or 3 flying about, which is hardly a problem), compared to like Reading & Glasto.

Good. I've never come as close to public violence than at Reading 2008 during tenacious d when a couple of f**kwits had a banner that said "tune" that was obscuring the view of everyone on the left side of the stage. I wanted to tear it away from them and hurl abuse, but the crowd was too tight and I couldn't reach them, so I moved and calmed down!

I see them littering the roads, where they have come off the cars, and I hate driving behind someone with them on their car, because I am worried they will fly off and hit my windscreen. Have these caused an accident yet, and will anyone ban them? Am I alone in finding them too moronic for words?

ummmm Can't decide on this one, i think festivals always look cool with loads of flags about and i enjoyed waving mine like a mad man when Maiden played in 07 but i've also been so pissed off its untrue when i'm trying to watch a band with a stage show and you cant see it for a stupid flag that has no relevance.

They were banned at R&L last year and it did make for a better view. The only plus point of a flag is finding people

Good. I'm short-sighted as it is, I don't need flags hindering my view even more! After seeing Reading & Leeds do it last year, I thought it was only a matter of time before other fests followed suit. Good move.

I'm quite happy for flags in the campsite if it werent for the people next to us bring a Che Guevarra flag last year i'd of never found my tent

I like to see the Flags in the arena of people who have come from other countries for Download thats cool, but other than that good decision I guess, although I don't think ive ever had a bad view due to a flag

Hope they're still gunna represent in the campsite!

True, did anyone see Serj Tankian at Leeds in '08? He spotted a Lebanese flag and an Israeli flag in the crowd and persuaded the two flag-holders to walk to join each other, which was pretty nice

Apart from that one isolated occasion though, I hate flags with a passion - people who bring them are just selfish c**ts and should be kicked out. I know they're just a bit of fun and help people find each other, but they are depriving people of seeing the bands they paid to see, which is unforgivable.

It was interesting to see flags haven't been banned at Glastonbury this year, despite the fact that they did a good job of blocking the stage from the cameras - so I can only guess at how little the actual crowd could see. It seems Michael Eavis wanted to ban them, but Emily wanted to see them - she clearly has never stood behind one and probably spends the whole time side stage!

Good. Finally. The worst is when the person holding the flag is right down at the front obscuring everyone further back's view. Good move by the organisers.

The best rule for flags would be welcome them in the campsite and keep them out of the arena

I agree yeah, flags in campsites are good for people with a crap memory of where their tent/s are. In the arena is just pure bad.
