So as this will be my 6th year at Reading festival, i was wondering if they're actually going to be getting stricter with security. From my experience the riots on the sunday nights have been getting worse and worse and it's time they done something about it. does anyone know if they'll be doing anything this year to enforce that?

i doubt it, i expect my group will do the usual thing we've done over the last few years, and head off right after the headliner on sunday night. too old for that shit now, and i'm only 21 :P

solving it isnt easy, but there's just no sign or even pretend feeling that the security are in any sort of control, it's quite pathetic.

Right, heres a sugestion...

how about they put it in the terms and conditions when buying tickets that anyone caught burning anything than firewood will be evicted?

Also when you get your wristbands on, the guys that give them to you could remind people of this also have signs around the entrance of the festival reminding people of this.

That way hopefully anyone burning tents will be evicted.

Ofcourse people getting evicted on sunday night wont mind so i dont know what the police do at the moment when catching people burning tents and things on the big fires, but should now be arested and banned for life from Reading/Leeds.

Don't know about Reading but the 'riots' at Leeds were very tame at Leeds last year. The gas cannister rule stopped a lot of explosions, and the stewards seemed to be doing a good job. The Sunday night was pretty grim as usual, but at no time did I feel threatened. A few fires around yellow as usual but not a lot more.

Having said that, though, walking through red and blue to the pick up zone on Monday morning it looked like a bomb site, 28 Days Later aftermath or something. Perhaps I just got lucky in 09.

I have worked at Reading for the past twenty years with the WBC and there has always been a problem - sure some years are worse than others .

Lucky enough as I don't camp in the normal camping area I have not been personally involved although I do get a lot of feedback from our own Security.

Call it a riot or high jinx but for people who get caught up in it they must go away wondering why Reading does attract a certain amount of Nutters who think its fun.

If I was a ticket holder Melvin { we used to work together with the WBC } would have to pay me to attend.

Although Latitude has only been going for a few years it has been able to avoid the major problems that blights Reading.

Only time will tell if the possible police crack down does any good.

I went to Reding in 08 for the first time and really enjoyed the festival but the sunday night was not good, tents on fire close to mines and huge fires and festival workers getting abuse for telling people to put fires out, why cant everyone just have a good sunday night without being the "angry mob" Cant really comment as i have only been to T and Reading but never have i seen this kind of stuff at T in the Park, is this rioting mostly R & L fests ? Or is it at most fests

I dont get this "things are geting worse" stuff. There really not. Things are nowhere near what they were in the early 00s and every year it gets calmer and calmer. Yes its still a problem but its not an ever increacing problem. This year was by far my quietsust sunday night. They did have a higher police and secuiryt precence this year, but everyone seems to ignor that. It worked well - and I think there planning on having it again this comming Reading (and probably upping it looking at the interview Scottie posted) so agin it will be calmer. But I bet next year the same threads will pop up saying its worse than ever.
