i was just reading this about kasabian in the sun, and they were talking football, and tom said they cant go to the world cup due to gigs/festivals, and something along the lines of v festival. 1 sec ill grab a quick copy and paste.

heres a direct quote from tom meighan:

"We can't go to the World Cup. We've got rock 'n' roll to play - the V Festival is around the same time and we're doing some other big shows"

kasabian looked likely to headline this year, but i'd say its a definite now.

The final is on the 11th July so either a) he doesn't know when V is or b, he doesn't know when the world cup is or c) they need six weeks to relearn the two chords their entire set consists of...

PS I actually like Kasabian a little bit...but I liked them more before they managed the 'Emperor's New Clothes' trick of telling everybody they were big enough to headline major festivals and the festival bookers believing them...

Easily big enough to headline V now the 3rd album is out.

Great live band and will surprise a few people. I thought they blew The Arctic Monkey's away when they played before them at Glasto a couple of years ago. Great anthems in the setlist as well.

Not my favourite band in the world - but they are worthy of headlining.

3 commmercially succesful albums, very good live act, sold out arena tours - and is Scissor Sisters can do it after one album.......

Plus, let's face it, The Killers headlined last year on the back 3 albums, only one of which is any good.

I wonder if it would be viewed differently if Kasabian were yanks........

out of all the festivals and gigs ive been to in the last 20 years(yes old fart)

the above fans of bands you mentioned are the worst I have ever encountered, which is why I didnt go to oasis day last year and will not go to a festival which kasabian will be playing this year for those reasons.

Yes, there may be a few dickheads in the crowd for them, but you get this with all different types of music and bands. If you're looking down on me, thinking I'm scum of the earth, gonna rob you're wallet, start a fight, throw piss on you, you really need to have a word with yourself mate. You can't judge someone on the type of music they listen to, and you shouldn't judge a band just because they happen to have a few twats who like them..

Agree with Lucky, Time & Hedge.

I've been to literally hundreds of gigs, all genres, Gangsta rap & Death Metal to Country and the worst crowds are always the 'lads bands'. They bring a footy match type atmos that sems to balance finely betwwen drunk/boystrous and angry/violent.

My girlfriend & I had seen KOL six times before seeing them on their last tour at Liverpool. The crowd were dead for the songs of the early album but as soon as 'sex on fire' kicked in the piss started flying. Everyone was super nice at the Slipknot gig that same week in Manchester though.

It's just the above mentioned bands have a higher % of f**ktards than most other bands.

Look - I like Kasabian, I think they will rock the main stage, but it's a different crowd than say Muse or Radiohead, it's just a fact of life. I've seen Oasis twice and the amount of idiots per square inch was amazing. When they played V in 05 the difference in clientele between the Saturday and Sunday was massive.

You can add Weller to that list as well but maybe to a lesser extent.

Kasabian haedline set is surely gonna be massive for both T and V. Just look at their sets at heaton park and wembley stadium where oasis just couldn't follow them. That on it's own makes them capable of headlining major festivals.

Why worry about the crowd they attract? I went to the wembley arena show last November and I thought the crowd were the most tame for any of the 6 times I been to see kasabian. By the rime headliners come on are you really that sober as to be bothered who else in on that field?

I still can never get why some people are close to obsessive about what other people are doing while a band is on. My wifes friend spends more time worrying about whats going on around her during a gig than actually watching the gig itself!!!

I've been going to gigs and festivals for about 18 years now, and regardless to the core of the crowd, I have never let it bother me - and I have never worried about what sort of crowd a band will attract - if I'm going to enjoy it, I will!

As for the football crowd reference - I understand where you are coming from, but I am a season ticket holder for my beloved club, and sit within the hardcore fans and regurlarly come home with no voice, but I've never thrown piss at a gig or festival in my life.

P.S. I like Oasis and The Prodigy so maybe the stereotype is semi-accurate!!!
