I'm considering going to V.

I've never been to V festival and my image of it (and please don't take this the wrong way) is lots of Peaches Geldof wannabe type girls with oversized sunglasses on and lots of men in pastel shirts with straw hats on and equally oversized sunglasses.

I'm sure I'm wrong and am being as judgemental as those who think Glastonbury is full of dirty bearded hippies, but I'd just like to get more of a true feel for the types of people V attracts before deciding on going there.

I'm not a beautiful person, especially not at festivals :P but at V would I be surrounded by the types of people that are?

I don't want this post to sound nasty, I have nothing against people wanting to look their best and all that but I'm not like that so wonder if I'd be better off going elsewhere??

You're probably now wondering exactly what my question is? :P I guess I'm just asking you to sell V to me, in whichever way you see fit :P

Edit: PS, is it like Reading/Leeds/TinThePark with an arena type affair and not being able to take your own drinks in?

lol

essexy = bad?

sexy = Good/

you went to chelmsford and said that the people are essexy... chelmsford, the county town of essex? i'll call riply's!

Katster i'm sure ive seen you posting in these parts of the forum before but i may be confused. i've been to v for the last 10 years and although the weekend doesnt seem to be as relaxed as before its still a good weekend. i've met plenty of friends there and the people i talk to always seem to be very nice... the crowd seems to be getting younger and younger(but that may be me getting older and older).

the price is also alot higher than it used to be and over the last few years its getting to be over-priced imo

but even with the younger crowd and more money needed to go, i'll probably end up there again this year. partly because if i didnt, i'd spend that weekend thinking what i would be doing if i went, and partly because whatever people say about it, its still fun

its probably not as good as other festivals but it all depends on your take i guess

completely agree with angelis, what else would you expect going to a festival in Essex?

but i also agree that its getting 'chavier' and 'chavvier' as each year goes by and i think its cause of the increase in dance acts and whatever beatz they're into. But i still like it, you wont get loads of fights and crazy moshpits like you would at somewhere like Reading but you still get mosh pits and stuff.

i think its a quality weekend.

Theres more chance you'll watch it on TV and go 'i wish i was there' than you go to the festival and go 'wish i was at home on facebook, this is a waste of money'

Katster like every festival it attracts a broad cross-section of society, most of the people I go with do not fall into that stereotypical mold. Most are into their music and just want to have a great time, yes you get the Ben Sherman shirted posers in their aviators but who cares, I'm more interested in decent music. I've done Download, Hard Rock Calling, Glasto and tons of festivals over the years and keep coming back to V as its fairly easy going.

If you like the line-up then go.

As for the 'not a beautiful person' who cares, if your a laugh you'll be fine its not Beverly Hills 90210 (showing my old age here). By Monday morning everyone looks like particularly sleep deprived and muddy zombies so relax. I looked at myself in my car wingmirror one muddy year and realised I looked like a had spent six months with the mujahadeen - mud, tan and unshaven.

Then again I'm speaking from experience of V in Staffs so (only done Chelms once).

Always seems to me its full of people just wanting to have a good time, sound quality is always good, great layout at the festival, nowhere near as many posers as you would expect

The negatives-

in the past if you wanted you would have to have tokens, no its half and half the bars, half tokens, half cash

if you're parking, [staffs site] leaving the festival can take you forever

yeah but the fact of the matter is....

you go to any festival you'll get posers trying to be cool. i may aswell just say that at download your gonna find a load of toothless simpletons cause its in Derby if you say its getting Essexy... just cause theres a few girls who havent left essex in their life with a tan like they've been living in barbados and their baps hanging out isnt a reason to avoid a festival

I have been to Staffs V for the last 3 years. Really enjoyed the first one and then I went to Glastonbury and it blew my mind. Have not enjoyed V as much since.

The reason why is firstly the people, they seem much friendlier and happier at Glasto. V folk like to chuck cups of piss at any opportunity.

The toilet arrangments also at V are bad. they dont seem to have nearly enough and you see people everywhere pissing up against the fences, women and blokes.

The rubbish arrangements are also worse at V. it is hard to even find a bin, as a consequence there is heaps of rubbish on the floor everywhere.

The security and arena, having to walk past sniffer dogs at least twice a day is a ball ache, as well as the queue to get in the arena when they take all drink off you, any umbrellas, seats etc.

All music gets cut off by 12am even the ones at the fairground and stalls and there is nothing to do but go back to your tent or watch a shit film in the cinema tent. Also queuing up for ages to get bar tokens, then having to queue up again to get an overpriced pint.

Having said all that you will have a great time because it is a festival and the line-up is always pretty good in my opinion. I would say it is a good festival just not a great one. It is what YOU make it and you will find a lot of great people there with a good few knobheads too. Watch over your belongings well and chill out about the negatives and you wont find it hard to have a brilliant time.

You should go.

i agree the weekend is what you make of it, you will get people going just because its seen as 'cool' to go to a festival everywhere - infact i recon if you look closley enough you'll find loads of these people at glasto because its seen as the ultimate festival

Like others have said the line up is always decent and the music is what you go for - i've been going for the last 5 years and i always have a great time - i have friends who dont leave the campsite but i just ignore them me and my fella go off and enjoy our weekend after all i'm not going to let some knob spoil my weekend......i've paid £175.00 for the ticket!

Go and enjoy yourself ok things might be a little over priced and the toilets are too clever but its a festival.... its meant to be dirty!! hehe

oh and i'm on about staff! :P

well they dont really like music! can you believe it, infact the only time i saw them leaving the campsite was to watch Girls Aloud! Enought said they were the only 'band' they had heard of!

I've told them not to waste there money but they wont listen! we dont even camp with them we set of a lot earlier so we miss them infact!

I do kinda wish i had the patience to make my self look that good in the morning of a festival i've usually got the same make up and clothes on that i travelled down in - with clean socks and underwear i might add! i'm not that bad!

if you do end up going i hope yo have a great time! :P

On the fact the music cuts off at midnight everywhere on site, thats bollocks, theres the bar tent thats open to 3am blasting out the tunes in the campsite and there was also a new silent disco in the campsite last year too, and one in the arena [although im not sure what time the one in the arena finishes] and as far as I was aware the music at the fairground stays on until 2am although I didn't check last year but it has in the past

I have been to V Stafford about 5 times.

When I saw the line up this year

Faithless

kasabian

Editors

White Lies ( my favourite band )

Groove Aramda

etc

I was - "i have to be there"

But then I think , it ain't a patch on Leeds or Glastonbury ( which I will be at this year ) so I sort

of go off the idea , cos it ainlt as good by far. But if you are desperate to see certain acts then

it may be worth a visit.

V is OK , but thats about it !

Personally I think you should wait for Leeds line up and then have a think.

Leeds gets better every year !
