The Headliners are

not read all the thread but if, as the general trend of the thread would suggest, there is some truth in this; I'm pretty happy. I love Blink and the Libertines, really like GnR but not sure I'd see them, unless there was no good LU headliner. Although it seems risky as hell to assume Axl Rose and Pete will both manage to turn up :P

In reference to the whole pop-punk debate

Am I the only person who doesn't see what link they have to punk at all?

To me they sound like indie bands taking themselves way too seriously

And I know people disagree but to me, pop-punk includes bands like The Offspring and Less Than Jake(who have a some ska mixed in), who unfortunately aren't in a resurgance

What do people think about these 2 playing by the way??? I would be rediculously excited for both.I know a lot of people don't like Blink, Sum 41, Limp Bizkit ect... but i just think it would make such a great atmosphere if they all played. I must say i would be vey happy if these headliners are true but i would probs not watch GnR unless there was nobody else good on the NME stage. No Doubt would also make me very happy!! Basically any band thats not dull and I am happy :P

you guys wanting the time warp might be happy to read this:

Download Festival will be unveiling 22 new acts - not 19 as previously claimed - this coming Monday.

In a posting on the official Download Facebook page, the rock festival promised a “variety of genres” and “something for everyone”.

The posting reads: “22 more bands. Announced midnight on Monday. The promise of a 'variety of genres' and 'something for everyone'. I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty damn excited.”

Amongst those strongly rumoured to be playing are Slash, Steel Panther, Killing Joke, Mastodon and Trivium.

The new bands will join headliners AC/DC, Rage Against The Machine and Aerosmith, plus the likes of Stone Sour, Them Crooked Vultures, Deftones, Stone Temple Pilots, 30 Seconds To Mars, Stone Sour and Wolfmother.

Download Festival takes place at Donington Park over the weekend of June 11th to the 13th 2010.

maybe the variety of genres will include the 'growing craze' of pop-punk ha ha

serious question here: are steel panther a joke band?

Thats crap and there is no basis whatsoever that you can make that guarentee on. When speaking about this revival people only seem to bring up Paramore and YMA6 in the genre (the other 2 you bring up are no way gaining popularity to back up your claim). The fact is there is still absolutly loads of indie bands who are outselling most bands in the genre. If I take bands who have been playing or have announced tours since the start of the year, or are releasing new albums soon in the indie genre with 3 or less albums I can easily name The courteeners, MGMT, Dead Weather, Vampire Weekend, Florence and the machine, We are scientists, Jamie T, The XX, Editors, Mumford & sons etc. etc. Theres loads of bands who are more established in the genre which are still doing well ala stereophonics as well as bands who just aren't doing anything at the who are still extremly popular. Theres hardly a influx of pop punk bands breaking this trend amoment nd there is no way it will ever come as popular as indie. Well at least in the next 10 years I'd say.
