A lot of people who were a bit too young last time they were around are in love with this band and the two singers. This is why they could headline now and couldnt then. The Libs are a kind of cult not just a band, i know loads of you will think this is stupid now but honestly if they do play and you watch them you would know what i am on about, The atmosphere and tension before they come on stage would some it all up. For the people who only know them because of all the drugs and problems i know why you think they will be a joke but listen to them live with an open mind and it will change your opinion hopefully.

I don't mind people having negative opinions of the Libertines and Pete Doherty, as long as when the time comes they either go and watch them with an open mind and a closed mouth, or just stay away and let what happens happens, rather than going along in the hope of seeing a mess.

Nirvana were a massive youth revolution in the early 90's, with legendary songs and performances

The libs are a band whos lifestyle got them noticed and had a few catchy tunes

Not in the same league imo

And i reckon the libs would be alright as headliners, probably a disappointment, but its gonna happen at some point anyway. I personally will be at another stage if you hadnt guessed :P

Exactly, kurt and Nirvana will be remembered as one of the greatest and most influential bands of my generation. The libs will be remembered as a fairly average band with a couple of catchy songs and having a mess of a front man, thats if they are remembered at all. They are in completely different leagues, I hope that if QOTSA are playing then they are headlining the tent on libs day.

The Libertines would be an NME readers wet dream. Its just annoying that they would headline on a small back catalogue and only a couple of good songs. Its more of a waste of a headliner for FR. Seems to be a last resort sort of thing cos no one else wanted to play or maybe FR were concentrating on other festivals making them epic and forgot about R/L

If Pete dies then he will be better remembered as a junkie who couldn't keep him self out of jail and went out with Kate Moss. Kurt is remembered as a hugely talented and influential musician, Kurt will be remembered a lot longer and a lot more favourably then Pete.

The libertines are not just pete doherty, people need to remember there all good musicians in the band and part of there success was the chemistry between pete and carl if they still have this chemistry when they play will be interesting to see but what ever happens it will be a great set. and they have plenty of really good songs they will fill the set easily

Would it be controvesial to say I don't see Nirvana or Kurt Cobain as particularly great musicians?

Nor were they anything like as influential as many other bands of their era (such as Smashing Pumpkins or Pearl Jam). They seem to have been put on a pedestal as untouchable as a result of Cobain's death, and people seem to envisage them as legendary due to their somewhat "poppier" anthems compared to their contemporaries, which earned them a great deal of notoriety at their peak
