Hey, so me and my mates booked weekend tickets on an impulse because of the first announcement. Now that the line-up is looking more full, we don't have a huge knowledge of the bands that are playing, so who should i be listening to and who do people recommend?

Cheers, Jc x

They've got alot of albums but I think Coheed & Cambria is the best start (Albeit they clash with Wolfmother probably so er... scratch that :P). If you do fancy checking them out though, give 'Welcome Home', 'Running Free' and 'Here we are Juggernaut' a listen as a starter.

If you like the whole screamo / metalcore type thing then I'd say August Burns Red, 36 Crazyfists and Dillinger Escape plan are worth a listen. They're all love/hate type things so it might not be your scene, but for me they stand out in the last announcement as bands with their own individual style and a bit less genericy.

I'll recommend some songs for them if you want, but you might not like the metalcore type scene!

Lets see I would recommend checking out Saxon most of all.

Deftones, Megadeth, five Finger Death Punch are good to check out also. Using Last FM or Spotify can be pretty handy, just have a search for the bands off the poster and have a listen to their back catalogue.

Well on the line up i know:

Acdc, Rage, Aerosmith, Deftones, TCV, Wolfmother, Motorhead, Billy Idol, and a little Coheed and Cambria but thats pretty much it.

Basically i want to hear new things over the weekend, but steering away from the whole screem metal sound, i can respect some of it but don't want to overdose on it!

Looking at that I don't think there's too much which I can logically recommend - alot of the second stage are more nishe type bands that you either like or not. Coheed is a good call as previously said, would definitely get some of their biggest hits if I were you.

Check out 36 Crazyfists too - they're sort of part of the screamo type scene but their definitely alot more approachable then say Dillinger Escape Plan. The vocals are mainly melodic and they have a unique style to them imo.

I wholeheartedly recommend Lawnmower Deth. Even if you're not a thrash/crossover fan, there's a huge comedy element to them and I had a riotous time in the pit last year. They're awesome. However their albums are very hard to get hold of. I'm desperate to get hold of 'Ooh Crikey...it's Lawnmower Deth!' and 'Return of the Fabulous Metal Bozo Clowns' but they're either a bit rare or out of print.

They do have a MySpace page though. Recommended tracks include:

Flying Killer Cobs From The Planet Bob

Did You Spill My Pint

Watch Out Granma, Here Comes A Lawnmower

And so on.

Other than that, I'd recommend Unearth, Volbeat and Dillinger.

You really need to check out Megadeth - one of the "big 4" of thrash metal alongside Metallica Slayer and Anthrax, fuelled by the mainman's (Dave Mustaine) resentment at being kicked out of Metallica, a grudge he has borne for 27 years :P (he claims to be over it now, but that's so not true). Rust In Peace is a must-have metal classic.

Worth checking out:

Stone Sour - start with Coe What(ever) May

Megadeth - Peace Sells But Whos Buying/ So Far So Good So What/ Rust in Peace era especially

Cinderella Id start with Long Cold Winter and theres also some good stuff on Night Songs and Heartbreak Station

Ratt - Out of the Cellar is their best but Invasion of Yor Privacy and Dancing Undercover have their moments.
