DaveElNino
It seems to be circumstantial speculation. As for them headlining the tent, I think they could easily do it safely. Before last year I'd've said no chance, but the tent is now much bigger - and has a lot of space round the outside. QoTSA also aren't *that* big - them subbing to RATM was considered a slightly high booking at the time as most people were expecting them to be 3rd from top. FloorFiller
on another note, Melvin said that he booked one of this years headliners last year who was at the festival last year? Josh Homme just shouts them headlining the NME to me, as i can't see how he could've booked any of the Main Stage headliners last year, other than him being on the phone to them during the festival or something (which i doubt)
chubbz
blink vs qotsa would break my black heart! stick them up against either arcade fire or libertines though and i'm all for it (secretly hoping for this, leeds has been really good for me in terms of clashes over the years, let's hope it continues!). stephen07
I was thinking maybe QOTSA are a bit big to headline the NME tent, sub headliner would be more likely if they play.
rexclark
I really can't see them playing the tent but can't really think anywhere else they'd play.

r0w
Sorry, but I really don't see why people on here think they will be playing the NME tent. 2005, they played under The Killers and Pixies. 2008 they SECOND-HEADLINED under Rage. With the exception of Faith No More (who don't really count imo) there hasn't been a big American band headline the NME stage in the last ten years ... at least thats as far as I've looked.. Bands like QOTSA don't tend to headline the tent, it's as simple as that really - I don't see why this year will be an exception.
Dirty Boots
They reunited late 2008/early 2009 after 15 years. They were announced mid-June. Quite an exception if you ask me.

Dirty Boots
Too big. FNM were booked for R/L and then pulled out or negotiations broke down. FR probably offered them a mainstage slot and they blatently kicked up a stink and got the tent headline slot. I've been to Reading four times now and pay a lot of interest to the festival in general, but, I am no expert nor do I have links. Common sense and experience however, tell me its unlikely a band of QOTSA's stature will headline the tent. Just look at the bands that have headlined in recent years. Do the like's of QOTSA or Arcade Fire follow the pattern?

1mills
over here, Lostprophets are probably a hell of a lot bigger than QOTSA (higher charting albums, higher charting singles, have headlined arenas)
luckysalt
I don't know if this has been mentioned anywhere yet but I was thinking today A lot of people are suggesting QOTSA could be headlining the NME tent and then people are going why would they headline the tent after playing 2nd on main stage last year, well maybe it was after TCV played the tent last year, Josh Homme liked it and in negotionations said Id like to headline the tent if we play next year. Remember that Melvin apparently said he booked an headliner and everyone was presuming it was TCV for headlining main stage, maybe it was with Homme to headline the NME stage with QOTSA? Just a thought...
YumYum
Yeah thats what i assumed, but also MCR started hinting at playing during the festival time alst year, i think they could be in the tent on the indie. MB never mentioned the band played the festival last year . . .

RichieSpenno
Where's this come from then? EDIT. They're playing Area 4 festival on August 20th, so looking like they'll be at R/L. Poop_Pants
over here, Lostprophets are probably a hell of a lot bigger than QOTSA (higher charting albums, higher charting singles, have headlined arenas) and judging by the disgustingly poor crowd Radiohead had (at least by the end) i'm guesing a lot of them flittered away to watch LP as long as FR play their cards right (i.e. put QOTSA on at the same time as another massive band, i.e. Blink (and possibly a crowd-pulling Dance act and FR act i.e. Deadmau5 and La Roux last year) there would be absolutely no problem) people who keep saying "look at the crowd they had in 08" should just remember who they were playing before every sub headliner is going to have a massive crowd as people want to get a good spot for the headliner QOTSA could easily play the NME without causing any danger or overcrowding it or anything. end. Chavmeisterdeluxe
Also QOTSA's huge crowd in 08 was up against The Wombats, if they were in the tent they'd be up against Blink (most likely) so very much a different propostion. pink_triangle
Really??? I'd also have assumed QOSTA have sold more albums than Lostprophets (although it doesn't matter as wouldn't surprised me if JLS/Susan Boyle had sold more albums than them)
pink_triangle
Why should album sells dictate popularity at an ALTERNATIVE MUSIC FESTIVAL?!
