How does headbanging and moshing make someone a good band? And this is coming from someone who likes heavier music. Its all about quality of music and enjoyment. That enjoyment can come in different ways.

This years headliners don't really suit my taste, except blink, but there all good acts that are all worth the headlining slot they have got.

Surely popularity is a measure of how good a band is? not in all cases but still....

Arcade fire have only had a couple of decent songs tbh, headline acts need to have a back catolouge of songs and have a decent amount of popularity.

And as for GnR... i agree with andy0808- they might as well be a tribute band.

No-one complained when RATM, The Killers and Metallica headlined in 2008, and this year's lot are basically equivalent to those bands.

I think it's that old chestnut of "I don't like them, therefore they don't deserve to headline" again.:P

if anythign i dont like heavy music, i like something people can get a bit into which i dont think Arcade fire will achieve. Fair enough they've got some good songs, i wouldnt agree with saying they've got one of the best albums of the decade by a longshot. im hoping NME tent can provide with some alternatives that will be a bit cheeky :P and the lineup overall will make up for my taste

I just think that there's too many risks involved with this years headliners.

G&R mainly cos of Axl cos you don't know if he'll storm off or something like he has done before.

Blink are a good band and I like a lot of their songs but they are awful live and Arcade Fire just aren't big enough imo and you'll get a lot of people who don't know any of their songs.

Compared to last year,

KOL- crap last album but great live and one of the biggest bands in the world atm.

Arctic monkeys- hugely popular who perform well live, even though alex turner has no stage presence

Radiohead- well, it's radiohead.

okay, Prodigy i can understand, but Kaiser Chiefs and Bloc Party?

come on

Guns N Roses, one of the biggest bands ever. it's not the original lineup, but who cares. it was always all about Axl. without his voice, they'd just be another hard rock band. anybody can play guitar, but only Axl can sing like Axl

Arcade Fire are an incredible band and Funeral is one of, if not the, best albums of the last decade. and they have The Libertines subbing to them. so even if Arcade Fire aren;t big enough to headline themselves, Arcade Fire + The Libs surely amounts to one amazing headliner?

I would hardly say they were a cult act considering they headlined Glastonbury in 2008 before Only by the night came out.

That album did gain them far more fans but they could have still headlined without it and were bigger than Arcade fire are.

Arcade fire played second or third last time they played. Last time they were over here they had a sell out arena tour. There either headlining, sub-headlining or co-headlining all the festivals they are playing this year. I don't really like them but how you can say they are not popular is beyond me.

Or are you just assuming this because you don't really know of the band?

was still a crap album though. even they hate playing Sex On Fire and Use Somebody now. bands don't usually hate their hits until absolutely years after

just because it was popular doesn't mean it's good. it's definitely their worst album by a long shot

the prodigy... as you said.... worthy of headline status

as for bloc party... they always draw a massive crowd and put on a great performance plus have a large catalogue so its not just the same songs repeated time and time again

as for the kaiser chiefs.... leeds born and bread (i go to their school :P ) but i was skeptical of them as well... however i was pleasently shocked... absolutley amazing set last year

shows that you cant just hold one thought and expect it to be true... for all we know this years lineup could be the best yet

They were only really ever big in europe though. Yeah they got to the glastonbury headliner for being such a good live band.

Yeah they are bigger than arcade fire are, but does'nt the whole headlining glastonbury thing prove something, that most years we are just getting regurgatated bands playing for over inflated pay packets (saying that so we should be for the money we pay haha)

Arcade fire had also sub-headlined the other stage at glastonbury in 06. I'd say that Arcade fire were bigger than the libertines due the information given above though.
