It was various different sites

I think this may have been because it was Sonisphere's first year (Download did the same type of thing in there first year) though the organisers have said they won't be doing it this year (though they are going to say that aren't they!).

Ps - Why is this not in the Sonisphere section? or are you fishing?!

If ticket sales are going as badly as I'm told, they won't be able to afford not to give out tickets and make some money back on concessions.

Last I heard Download was selling better than ever with 60,000 tickets shifted by the start of march.

Sonisphere (as of early march) had yet to reach 10,000, and were some way off that figure too. Goes to show people don't want to pay for 2 days (with half the bands in two days at DL) what they could pay for 3 at Download/Reading.

That Pendulum thing is a massive misstep as well.

End of the day, Download has a hard time selling tickets when it had the alternative mainstream rock type market to itself. Now Soni's on the scene it's fighting after a piece of an already limited pie, and it's up against a cheaper (On days to cost ratio basis) which has ACDC, RATM and Aerosmith, 3 huge bands who don't tour the UK much.

No surprise imo it's struggling. I can't decide whether soni will stick around - it depends if the fact it's based over the entirety of Europe means as a whole it's still been a success. Most festivals on this scale arn't expected to be hugely profitable / successful until after 4 or 5 years or so anyway.

Hoping my mate can get me some tickets as he works in the press and I'm sure any press outlet which asks for Soni tickets is going to get them...

I'd rather it just f**ked off TBH, imagine the lineup at donny this year if we didnt have soni and dl battling over "exclusives"? IMHO there are too many festivals of this size the UK annually.

I/we normally do one big festival a year, sometimes 2 in exceptional circumstances - I'm sure many people are the same, if we were young free and single we would do more - but life isnt always that simple!

young free and single me can only juust afford one festival this year.

While i do agree that maybe there are too many big festivals, i wouldnt want to lose any because then it'd make getting tickets that bit more difficult.

I wouldnt want to have to sit by the phone like you have too with leeds/reading and glastonbury.
