But Leeds and Reading sell out within minutes, regardless of the headliners.

I'm willing to admit Arcade Fire are maybe big enough to headline (in the context of some we've had), although personally I think they're a weak booking. It doesn't really matter though. The festival will sell out regardless, and it looks like there's a good enough undercard to maintain its overall reputation.

Arcade Fire are bigger than people think, for me they will be the band of the festival, i'm almost certain of that (unless The Libertines do something amazing. unlikely). Much like Radiohead were last year.

They might not sell tickets, but unlike other fests like Download, Reading sells itself, the lineup to many people is just an added bonus. Most of my friends didn't take much interest in Radiohead, couldn't believe Arctics didn't play Mardy Bum and ignored 90% of KOL's set. Yet they still had a great time.

For all those saying "Who are Arcade Fire", a lot of people were saying the same about Faith No More last year, the average Reading/Leeds go'er nowadays doesn't tend to be familiar with bands that have been out of the spotlight for more than a couple of years. Pearl Jam, Pixies, or even The Cure would mean nothing to a fair few.

In reply to the AF Vs FNM thing, i can't say the latter ever interested me all that much, i've listened to a few songs, but nothing grabbed me and i saw a very dissapointing KOL instead. AF however are hugely talented and i can't name many bands id rather see at present, but maybe that's just me.

They are surely too big for the NME, can't think of many bands that have 2nd headlined then played NME in recent times. Excluding Manics, but they have decreased in popularity, no doubting that.

AF have a dedicated fan base, not just a lot of fairweather fans.

Im the same, i know who they are but never listened to them. I have done recently, and have to say they disapoint me still.

The fact that they've played Reading/Leeds twice, and on the second time played just below the headliner surely shows them to be an act that's "very Reading", plus an act of major stature.

So those facts should have any sensible Reading/Leeds goer who doesn't know of them or their stuff thinking "I should check this band out so I know more than I currently do" rather than those people saying "I don't know them therefore they shouldn't play Reading/Leeds". :P

I have no problem with them playing, I would just say that unless you are a fan of that type of music there are maybe not many people that would have heard of them. Compared to say Kings of Leon or Arctic Monkeys (neither of which I particularly like, but I could probably sing every word to a few of their songs).

"that type of music" is the exact type of music that Reading & Leeds put on!!!

Which part of that can't you grasp? :P:P
