CCTV at Reading?

If there's another thread, I apologise, however I am currently intrigued at the prospect of CCTV cameras being situated around the festival? I mean, after a discussion with my friend just now, we just can't see the logic.

Firstly, where will they be situated? The fire towers? Or the arena itself where people get frisked on entry anyway?

Secondly, the cameras would need to be fantastic at night vision for this is when many of the riots/fires/problems have occurred, and I doubt FR will spend their money on CCTV cameras instead of bands?

Can any shed some light on this topic as i'm kind of confused about this whole thing?

There's mention of CCTV in the "ejection policy" news article on the new website but, as you say, it's very light on detail.

My thoughts are that they're makign the statement to allow them to do it if they want but not necessarily confirm it. I'd be happy to have CCTV on the campsite if it was used to reduce some of the disorder on the Sunday night.

The image is from Latitude but as its the same security at Reading expect to see them driving about

CCTV on top of landrover

the gray pod at the top is a telescopic CCTV and infrared light system - dont know how many they use but I spotted two at Latitude.

I was also working at Reading but I had no reason to wander into the ticket holder camp site so cant confirm if they were used last year.

I think they are a good idea .

I'm not necessarily saying it's like the worst thing in the world ever, I just hate the feeling of being watched with whatever I do?

But if they've been at Reading for many years you say, then I guess that it's fine.

I'd not like to see drones though.

We are the most watched people in Europe. It's absolute bollocks.

London is covered in these things and it doesn't stop crime nor did it stop bombers. Watch Joe Strummer on the Glastonbury video for his view on this encroacment into our liberties. God knows what he'd think if he was still with us.

I'm afraid it is a relection of an apathetic society that allows this to continue.

if your not doing anything wrong it shouldnt matter if there are cameras or not, as was said before your not going to get ejected for something that isn't serious.

If they were busting everyone that smoked some weed or the like then there business would be in jeopardy. The cameras are purely there for peoples saftey, and if anything just to put people off doing stupid things.
