hole - if they are headlining NME, why?

this, fair enough putting them on the mainstage but courtney love's a liability(not that it seems to matter with the acts lined up), and hole have been out of the public eye for so long. It's not like their reunion has been met with high profile slots (as in faith no more, headlining all the euro fests along with download before getting announced for reading/ leeds). The only songs i remember getting regular rotation on tv were celebrity skin and malibu.

very true. i quite liked hole waaay back when, but even i only knew a few songs and they only had 3 really decent ones.

it probably would just be ego...

i dont know what they would play or if they would have a big crowd

as far as i know someone hasnt actually said they will deff be headlining, not sure where that came from

thats what i thought but everyone's prediction has them headlining, is this just because noone knows where they would play? if they were to play NME surely it would be about 4th down? i cant see them getting a crowd at all. i hope they dont play at all if i'm honest, would rather any of the bands that are playing lattitude

I think theyre big enough to headline something the size of the NME tent, but at r&l, it just doesnt seem right. I cant imagine many people at leeds would have heard of Hole to be honest, and i think theyd end up getting a tiny crowd.

However, 4th or 5th on the mainstage and i think theyd go down much better.

Very good band. Very iconic woman from modern pup culture and 90s Alt scene (like her of not). VERY popular during the mid/late 90s. Reunion hype. They sold out a reunion gig in february in minutes. To be fair it's not even the original lineup and they sold it out. There is a demand. If one has not heard of a band, or does not like them, one cannot assumne they aren't big/popular/good/in demand enough to headline.

if Hole did headline the NME their turn out would be so poor. they really aren't a band people would miss Guns N Roses, Blink 182 or Arcade Fire for. at all

Faith No More had so many people excited, and their turn out was godawful, so i'd imagine Hole's would be even worse

maybe second down would make sense, but not headlining

yeah i was gonna mention the up against KOL and weren't announced in the initial announcement argument (doubt FR will leave announcing NME headliners so late this year after that) but i'd said it somewhere else so i didn't want to repeat myself

they're fairly big - sold out their one off shows pretty damn quick - but i don't know. to the average Leeds crowd, i doubt many would choose Hole over other possible headliners personally

they'd fair far better somewhere on the Main Stage, or lower down on the NME (when they have lesser bands to compete with), rather than headlining when they have the cream of the crop-bands to compete with

I agree, i'd much rather have them on mainstage, like 4th would be great. But they'd be very worthy of a headline slot on the NME tent. I'd much prefer one of the other lineups though. If Mellissa get booked solo somewhere i'd love them to hook up for a Hole set :P Won't happen though... Love is a bit of a douche.

I think I've seen someone post on this forum that she has said that she is playing 2 british festivals and headlining a second stage on the other and thats why people have the assumption that R+L will be the second stage one.

As for the crowd she gets I think that it will depend on who they're up against and to say that nobody will pick them over the 3 headliners is crap. I can only name celebrity skin off the top of my head but I have heard a few others as well as a few courtney tracks which are half decent. If they clash with GNR, which I have very little interest in, than I'd go see them to see what the rest of the stuff is like. Either Hole or nothing and I'd pick Hole and surely others would just on the basis of celebrity skin or the fact she is who she is. Loads of people will have little interest in each headliner.

As for faith no more. Yeah people can say that they had a poor turnout because they were announced later, but would faith no more fans actually fork out that cash to see them anyway if they were announced earlier? Radiohead are a much bigger band and they weren't even able to sell the day tickets for their day at Leeds whilst AM and KOL pretty easily did. Would 8000 FNM fans pay £75 quid to make a full tent?? I doubt it they aren't really a big band and probably won't have enough fans who will fork out a high price to catch a hour set at a festival and the presumption that people think they would are letting their own tastes cloud their judgement. If Radiohead weren't able to get rid of their tickets than FNM would have very little chance.
