hole - if they are headlining NME, why?

umm. Well Radiohead are one of the biggest bands in the world, FNM are obviously no comparison but niether are anyone on the lineup. But yeah, FNM were playing Download, a scottish festival and Brixton dates. All of which sold out, except DL but that thing never sells out. So by the time these had been and gone or fans had bought tickets to these other events thinking they may not see them again. Also didn't day tickets sell out for Friday (Reading) anyway?

I think it would be silly for hole to headline the nme i'd even go as far to say they should headline FR tent and before anyone says they are too big consider echo and the bunnymen headlined it in 2005 and they are arguably bigger and better.

But knowing leeds and reading they will put hole as the headliner.

It's not Holier than thou at all.

I was just asking as they are clearly way too big for the FR tent. Even if you you dont like them it's pretty clear thats the case.

But i'd say they haven't been riot grrl since the first album really. However, if they play they will headline NME or be high-mid main like 3rd or 4th. FR is too small of a tent for them.

If they were put up against The Libs or Guns n Roses I think they could get a decent crowd. Over the last week or so I've spoken to at least 20 people about Reading and every person has shown quite a bit of anger at Guns N Roses potentially headlining and also I think there would be a large anti-Doherty crowd if Hole played at the same time as the Libs.

Having been going to Reading since the 90's I long ago gave up trying to predict which bands would draw big crowds!!

My view is that Hole would make an excellent NME headliner, and personally I'm hoping they're up against Blink 182 who in my experience are dreadful live.

I went to the Hole show at Shepherds Bush and expected it to be full of old farts like myself, remembering the band from the early 90's. Instead I'd say the average age was twenty or so, and the audience was probably over 50% female - certainly far more women there than at a typical rock gig. And the show was fantastic. If the bookers from festival republic were at that show then I'm sure they'd be thinking of Hole as a great option for NME as it appears they'd draw a very different crowd than the rumoured headliners

Are people still thinking the reason for FNM's small crowd was because they weren't big enough?! :P:P

FNM weren't announced til after all the tickets were sold out. Therefore, none of their fans, who didn't already have a ticket, were able to buy tickets to see them. If they had been announced the same time as the rest of the bands they wouldnt have been in a tent. People would have died.

How can you be certain that FNM fans would've got such a large percentage of tickets? The festival sold out straight away anyway, they were on the same time as KOL who aloty of people would have turned up to see. I agree the return of FNM was big but most there fans would rather go to Download to see them rather than a less heavy than usual R&L line up.

Your posts are normally quite level headed but I have to disagree this time.
