Soundgarden the surprise third headliner?

Blink and Guns N Roses seem set to headline and no-one seems to know where Arcade Fire or The Libertines are playing. Soundgarden have obviously reformed, so could they be in with a shout for this much discussed final headline slot?

I know they've already been discussed, but it seemed to die out a bit quick.

They've apparently released a statement loosely confirming they're headlining Leeds/Reading and Lollapalooza. Still working on finding this statement though.

Are they big enough to headline R&L tho? I know they are big, but i couldnt see them being well known to the common reading and leeds crowd.

It's the fact they've reformed though, that fact alone seems to guarentee a lot of bands atleast a sub-headline slot.

They were genuine contenders until a couple of months ago but seem to have dropped out of contention. Pumpkins pulled off the afternoon slot-split-reform-headline thing a few years back so I think Soundgarden could as well. Here's hoping.

They were big enough only to be second headliner back in 1994 under the chili peppers before they pulled out a few days beforehand...they came back in 1995 and co-headlined the sunday night with Neil Young (+ Pearl Jam minus Eddie Vedder as his backing band) as both got 90min sets....but that was back then when they were still around and a big draw....they won't headline now

In ways I can see this happening, but Its just came from a wikipedia page, so its nothing you can be reliant on. IMO i hope they don't play and feel its a waste of another headline slot

huh ? I'm sorry I think you'll find Pumpkins have played Reading 3 times and headlined 2 of them - 1992 low-mid afternoon main stage slot, 1995 - headlined Friday night and 2007 headlined Sunday night at Reading...

Soundgarden have subbed twice though, suggesting they could still be quite a way up based on your logic

Yeh fair points, I can still see it happening though. I wouldn't put anything past Festival Republic after the last few years.

Soundgarden would be a fantastic headliner. and YES they are big enough to headline. However i'dbe happy for them to sub this year if there was a rush booking after the announcement. Doubtful though

Think they're more likely for the R1 tent then Arcade Fire tbh...

But no, I doubt they'll play. Maybe subbing to GnR, but chances are they'd get more money waiting for offers from Download and Soni next year...
