i think it only applies to acts that are so famous their very presence will attract people no matter what kind of set it is, i'd say its like a "dj set plus live pa"

but that sounds lame... obviously, so they call it soundsystem... or something. suffice to say its misleading.

Faithless Soundsystem is Sister Bliss DJing Faithless songs, with Maxi Jazz rapping/MCing over them.

Gorillaz Soundsystem are DJs who play Gorillaz records, and others, and there are MCs on stage with them

LCD Soundsystem are a full live band though
