Why did GnR only play leads in 2002?

Title says it all really. Would have thought they'd have picked Reading seeing as it's meant to be the better known festival.

They had a gig booked that weekend but they were asked to play, then decided to play one and opted for leeds. Also someone mentioned that leeds was in it's infancy and struggling to sell tickets so they played there to give it a sales boost, not sure how true that is mind.

It's a combination of the two. They would only play Friday and chose Leeds as that had an airport to get in and out of quickly. They could have played Reading on the Friday if they wanted to, the bill would have been moved around to accomodate them.

Not Tokyo - they were playing in Belgium (Pukkelpop festival i recall) after Leeds, and then came back to do a London show on the bank holiday monday at the Docklands arena

no problem - I was very close to going to Leeds for GnR and jacking in my Reading ticket, then the London show was announced. That was a very long bank holiday weekend!
