Pardon me for being insensitive but are there really such things as dogs for the hard of hearing? I can understand guide dogs for the blind but it's not as if guide dogs for the hard of hearing can do f**king sign language or write subtitles.

A hearing dog is a specific type of assistance dog specifically selected and trained to assist people who are deaf or hearing impaired by alerting their handler to important sounds, such as doorbells, smoke alarms, ringing telephones, or alarm clocks. They may also work outside the home, alerting to such sounds such as sirens, forklifts and a person calling the handler's name.

Most academics will generally dissuade you from using Wikipedia as a source for references but then again I can't imagine the article of hearing dogs being vandalised... unless, of course, the seeing cats become computer literate.
