It was a mear conversation starter. :P

I would argue that a lot more than just NME readers care about the Libs reunion. but yeah i'm very excited for the libs. I was never in to Blink when i was younger so i don't have any real opinion on their performance this year though... Hopefully they won't dissapoint for those who arereally looking forward to it, but it's not really forme.

there is no doubt that blink are big enough to headline.

at their peak, they were huge.

i think the thing with blink, is that they have a lot of very loyal fans who have stuck with them while they had a break and have been waiting for them to come back.. plus they have all still been around with +44 and angels and airwaves, so they've still been on everyone's radar.. i also think a lot of people (like me) listened to them as a teenager and it's always good seeing bands that you were into when you were young.

plus, blink 182 are my favourite band ever. :P

Blink will be a reasonably popular choice of headliners amongst some people for nostalgic purposes, back in the day when they were reasonably popular amongst the young skater 'rebellious' pop crowd is about the time those people have now (hopefully) grown up and are now attending festivals and listening to decent music

However, as those people have now come of age, they'll be excited to see a band they loved so much play again, hell, I even had a Blink album back then and its a bit of poppy fun, nothing wrong with that!

If they were a new band releasing that material to people of our age group (18-25 im assuming) they'd be largely unnoticed or at best background music that's neither here nor there. But as they were listened to by a largish (but young) crowd 'back in the day', they'll prove popular amongst people who were around 13-15 back when they had a couple of memorable pop songs. I wont be watching, but I bet it'll be a bit of fun for those that do and a decent performance for those reasons mentioned.

I think I just missed the boat on Blink when they were around 10 years ago.

Thinking back I saw them at Reading 2000 when I was 19, and I think they were a bit to "pop" for my tastes back then, and was much more interested in bands such as RATM, Deftones, Slipknot, Foo Fighters and Limp Bizkit that weekend.

Most of my friends of a smiliar age never really followed them either, it was more younger siblings of ours who were around the 13-14 year old mark at the time who liked them.

They've got some catchy sing-a-long songs though, and I suppose it depends if they were a faviourte of yours when they were first around as to if you think they are worthy of a headline performance.

Personally I couldn't reel off more than 5 of their songs off the top of my head, but I can appreciate that for people much younger (I'm 28 now) they were a big part of their growing up.

The one thing I can't work out though is how Paramore are sitting that high up on the bill!

As other people have said it is a generational thing.

I can only recognise/name 4-5 blink songs, and am always getting them confused with wheatus of teenage dirtbag fame! But then again when I was the age that blink appealed to when they were bigger (13-15) I had the grunge era, so was into nirvana, pearl jam, metallica, faith no more, green day, offspring when their big albums came out in early 90s. So when blink came out a few years later or whenever it was, they just seemed like poppy versions of green day and offspring to me, and no way near as good.

I may see them on sunday after listening to more of their stuff between now and the fest, but all depends who else gets announced on the other stages, dance, FR etc.

Libertines have saved LF for me imo. Obviously more bands are too be announced and should make it a stronger line up. But at the moment if Libs weren't there it would be a very very very average line up.

This years line-up is infinately better than last years.

Libertines were alright a few years back (shite live though), but the only reason they're so high on the bill is because of the tabloids obsession with Pete "do us all a favour and overdose already" Doherty and his relationship with that scrawny nut job. Saturday is by far the weakest day.

As people have said before blink 182 are not one of the massive headliners we have had in recent years but are not the smallest either. They are headlining because they gained success from a combination of good pop songs, the right image and good marketing.

I would say they are borderline headlining material but have no problem giving bands like this the oppurtunity rather than recyling the likes of foos, muse, arctic monkeys etc every year. Some of it is also down to luck, their reunion correspnded with a time when there werent many obvious headliners around and they were a solid choice. I dont think they will get as big a crowd as guns and roses or libetines but im sure it wont be a pumpkins/pixies tiny crowd either

Maybe I am out of touch but isnt a large proportion of paramores fanbase a bit younger than your average festival goer. I personally couldnt name a song they have done. I cant see the crowd being massive, the libetines are in the same slot and will be a far bigger draw.

I don't mind Blink headlining. Will be good to bob along to. Shame they are clashing with the Klaxons though.... One thing that has pissed me off though is that Limp are so low down.

Anyone who saw them last year at Download would say they were one of the best acts of the weekend. Superb live. They should be second on the bill. How are Cypress higher than them?

Their popularity pretty much is in the same vein as Blinks was 8 years or so ago. Poppy music but have a massive younger following (My 14 year old sister thinks they're the shit).

This is largely because of the rubbish Twilight films they did the soundtrack for, however, only goes to prove the sorts of crowds they're aiming for. Not really a Leeds/Reading band I don't think, but I think there's probably a few people on this forum who wouldn't like to admit they have a bit of a guilty pleasure for Paramore (and probably the Twilight films, gulp!)... the organisers know this.

Oh yeah, im sure its way more than just NME readers excited about it, I mean I was never really interested in them before, but im looking forward to going to see them, see what the fuss is about and the fact that its also likely that even if they do fully reform it may not last that long, so at least I can say I saw them! So I see why they are a big draw for the fest! As for Blink, they will be great fun, and a perfect end for the saturday for me, I absolutely love them! I think they get written off because of a few joke songs they wrote, there is a lot more to them than that! Having said that I perfectly understand, as you do, that music tastes differ and it wont be for everyone! Thats why we have other stages :P

Who are you hoping to see on the 'blink day'? Klaxons? or are you hoping for someone else to be announced?

i loved blink 182 from buddha to enema of the state (and a few songs off pants and jacket).

i know they are not the best band ever but i put enema of the state on the other day when me and a few mates were in our hotel room after a days skiing whilst having a few beers. it was brilliant!!!! good fun singalong and reminded us of times where we weren't working 9-5 but going out partying and driving to the beach etc.

really looking forward to seeing their return.

what's my age again? (27!!!! :P )

If you go an see them i'd actually give a look to their history and listen to albums. Like it'll be hard to understand the fuss if you don't fully understand it :P For me it'll bring back memories of school, and old friendships etc. But knowing it's a bgi day for the band too will be great. I'm looking forward to seeing them crop up in random places for Guerilla gigs like they used to, and inevitably will again :P

Yeah i mean i don't write Blink off, they do have some very good sing-a-long tracks. I do have their best of, but that's as deep as i'd ever go. Even as a nu-metal kid (sameful  ) i was never into them, which is wierd. But It's clearly a big deal for them and the fans... After he nearly died and all. Like the Libs, i'm not convinced it's about the money. Both are groups with strained histories, honouring each others friendships by preforming after a long while once again.... the money must have helped, but i don't think either band did it for that reason, which is a very good thing

Blink day i have no idea. At the moment i will see Blink because i will be as far to the front as i can be for LB, CH and Weezer, so might just stay in position all night. Klaxons i would see if they weren't so gash live. I'm just hoping someone like Dinosaur Jr are announced for the FR tent. That's be lovely
