Hey, I'm going to Reading this year and it will be my 3rd time, however I don't understand why the lineup is so rocky :S. Sure, 2008 had rock bands on it, but not a stupidly large amount like this year, I even gave Rage Against a Machine a chance and thought they were awful! The Killers blew them off the stage the following night! Queens in the Stone Age played that year too and they're back again, can't they find any new bands for a change? :S

Why couldn't there be bands like MGMT, The Enemy and Bloc Party back? Something to get the crowd moving. It's not meant to be a rock festival full of emos and mosh pitting :S

Well you never know what your getting with the Glasto line up, and Glasto is far bigger than reading in terms of mainstage acts (Btw there is no fanboyism in this post, I'm just saying in general). Arcade Fire could headily play second from top on the U2 night.

even though you say the headliners are supposed to be exclusive, this didn't stop them booking Rage in 2008 even though they were confirmed for TITP earlier in the summer

Not a chance, truth is Glasto pay really poorly hence why their headliners are shared with other festivals every year and FR would make sure their headliners are exclusive and if there was a chance of their headline act was only a 2nd at another one they would squash it as soon as possible as Reading is the last big festival of the summer so it would damage them too much as nobody would go out of their way to go to Reading for a band they have seen at another festival.

Well Neil Young and Bruce both played Hard Rock Calling, Arctics, KOL and Radiohead were all English exclusives. So yes, Reading does attract bigger artists, Glasto probably a bit more unique. Although with U2 I would suggest they probably have the biggest this year.

The reason Glastonbury shares headliners is because they do not make them sign exclusivity contracts. In theory your right and if u sign a exclusivity contract it does mean that you have to pay more.

The reason that Glastonbury doesn’t pay as much as reading is complex. (Michael Eavis pays £200,00 for his headliners)

1.Evis can’t afford to pay anymore and run all the things that happen at the festival

2.Because Eavis doesn’t prophet from the festival (well i think he takes 30,000 which is like nothing) bands don’t mind being charged less as they know there not getting ‘ripped off’ as such.

3. Glastonbury is the biggest festival in the world, and the first. It also has massive media attention. Bands really want to play it as it gives them massive publicity and boosts album sales. Trust. Metallica have said many times they wish to pay, and this is a band which usually charges over a million.

Urm mate. you make no sense. Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young and Blur are bigger than Koll and Arctic Monkeys and on par with Radiohead.

Considering Neil young has made 33 albums and is admired By tom York and many other artists

Bruce Springsteen has sold 120 million albums [making him 89th in the world]

Blur are heralded as inventing Brit pop, one of the most successful bands of the 90s

headling reading once and Glastonbury twice.

p.s Also Neil young headlined isle of Wight as well as hard rock.
