Latest Rockness Announcements

Ok I guess it’s my turn to dissect your load of BS now...

No dubstep? Have you seen dubstep at a festival?? It's horrific. I run a dubstep night in Glasgow and would never want to hear the grungy dark tunes being played in massive tents. Dubstep definitely isn't made for festivals.

i just found out about the announcement. been away for a few days.

green velvet and optimo in the arcadia!!! might have a heart attack with anticipation :P

not too fussed with the rest though... dissapointed really :/ havent heard of the majority (and i generally enjoy seeing acts ive never heard, makes it exciting, just thot with this 'big announcement' i would have heard of more of them)

and jim did say he would be announcing the sunday clash headliner in this announcement and the only act thats playing on sunday that comes close to that status is blondie no?

saturday clash headliner im guessing will be indie (due to dance headliners leftfield on mainstage) probably being doves/ian brown.

overall though, i am very happy with the lineup :P roll on the madness :P

TITP wouldn't think to book an act like Leftfield would they not? TITP had Leftfield play in 2000 when they were at their peak!!!

And I'm sure they would've loved to get them this year.

And having a comedy act at a festival is nothing groundbreaking, plenty of festivals have comedy tents with some big performers playing them they're just never billed until you get there normally – TITP even has its own comedy tent, albeit a small one.

Is there? Anyone decent played it? There's enough comedy at TITP anyway.

Ok so i'll go through some of the shall I?

Blondie – Good announcement, yes probably for the mass public I accept that. Big deal? Not really they are past their prime and the last time they played in Scotland they were only playing a 2,500 or so capacity venue so I doubt they'd sell out the SECC like you said, if they were so much of a big deal how come they weren't playing the SECC that time?

The Strokes – Yes a big pull for the indie fans and I don't deny that but again, it's hardly a groundbreaking announcement and Rockness' s main competitor (which it's apparently so far ahead of) had them a couple of times over the last few years when they were, again, at the peak of their popularity.

TITP would have loved to have both these acts, The Strokes aren't on a downward trajectory, they've been on a hiatus and the buzz around them again is huge. I'm going to Leeds this year and they'd kill for The Strokes, getting them for one of only two UK bookings this year is a major thing. Blondie, although not a huge booking will still sell more tickets.

I'm perfectly aware Daft Punk aren't touring, i'm not asking for them to be booked I'd just like some big dance announcements. The Chemical Brothers would have been perfect considering they haven't played since 2007 and have a new album ready for release in the Summer. It would have been better being one of the first festivals where they debut their new material and live show at rather than getting them next year at the tail end of a tour promoting the album and when we've already saw videos of their new live set up by then. Again, just my opinion.

Has Jim King said he hasn't bothered to try for The Chemical Brothers? I'm pretty sure that they're on his radar and as far as I know they're only doing a selected few fest this summer. Fair enough if they were all over the place but they aren't.

And no, Lady GaGa & The Black Eyed Peas are not what turns a festival into TITP, they are what's turning TITP into a Scottish version of V Festival and loyal TITP goers have voiced their opinions on acts like these playing T numerous times. TITP is full of total tossers which puts a lot of people including myself off going very often but you can't fault the majority of their line-ups, both dance and indie/rock fans are catered for with the newest exciting upcoming bands booked every year. What you said about Rockness applies perfectly to T, if you look a little deeper past what's there to pull in the masses T is fairly forward thinking. There's always at least a few acts you'd never heard of that play smaller stages at T and before the next one has came around they're absolutely massive.

Thats because TITP has major backing, they have three new bands stages. With TITP it's more a matter of if you throw enough shit at it some will stick. I think Rockness does quite good for new acts IMO.

This isn't TITP vs Rockness though – this is Rockness vs previous years Rockness in my eyes and this one just doesn't live up to it's own standards IN MY OPINION! Every year for the last few years has been massive compared to this years line-up. I'm a massive fan of Rockness and I do think in previous years it has been quite a forward looking/thinking festival but I think it's stagnated quite a bit this year.

Like the old saying goes though - opinions are like arseholes, everybody's got one.

I think alot of people will agree that this years isn't the best line up but I'm still very happy with it and get happier with every announcement.

I'm certain that we'll allhave an amazing weekend. I personally cannot wait. :P

I was kinda gutted with the announcement at first but to be honest the lineup was good to start with so I'm not too fussed.

I'm going back to rockness for the 2nd year in a row because of the atmosphere. I was getting sick of TITP after 7 years & I found exaclty what I was looking for in a festival when I went to rockness last year. I bought my ticket ages ago so I'm not gona grumble if the latest wave of acts isn't great. The best sets I saw last year were from bands I'd never heard before so I'm walking in with the same mentality this year.

One question though...

Is kevin bridges gona be doing a standup set in a tent or used as some kind of compere? Pretty big deal booking a stand up comic who can sell out the SECC, but I'll be interested in to what capacity he'll be used. Standup comedy is something I'd like to see more of at festivals, maybe get like half a dozen comics a day & run a tent for the afternoon for people to chill out & have a giggle in.
