Main Stage and Lockup changed location

From the boss himself: Melvin Benn

In Leeds we've actually changed the position of the Main Stage this year. Essentially, in the position that it was, everybody arrived on the right hand side of the stage, so what used to happen is that it would get very busy on the right side and not quite so busy on the left.

So what we've done is move it 45 degrees clockwise, so that when people come into that particular field it's straight in front of them as opposed to on their left. It's due to go up, which will be exciting.

He's right in what he says, the right hand stage was always more crowded. Whether it will change because the stage as moved I don't know.

It happens at most festivals and gigs, one side is always more crowded than the other.

Wireless festival is bad for it, the left hand side is extremely busy whereas the right you can swing a cat and have a good dance.

I hoping the hill on the main stage that helps people see no matter where they stood is sloping in the right direction still

I've been trying to work this one out in my head, but can't picture it.

Does this mean that instead of the hill sloping upwards from the front of the stage, there's now going to be a sort of, 45 degree slope across the front of the main stage? That seems silly.

I thought the old position was perfect, especially with the slope - it also meant that if you wanted to get towards the front all you had to do was go to the far side! However for The Prodigy last year it got dangerously close to some serious crowd crushing on the left of the stage where the stalls and ice cream van were, so they had to make some changes.

This year I was glad to find the slope still remained! However the left side facing the stage did definitely slope sideways as well! I stuck to the right side for the rest of the day after I realised that. But can't complain really, the change worked out well

I was unsure about the new position of the stage from the map but I thought it actually worked really well. There was still a slope and the views of the stage were good. The new placement also seemed to get rid of the bottlenecks. Placements of bars and toilets also seemed good. A good decision all round I think.
