I don't think it's fair to compare a lineup with one so many years ago.

The 2000 will generally be better, as you can see now established bands like Muse headlining the then radio one tent.

If you looked at this lie up in ten years, bands you may not rate now, or wish to see could be established acclaimed artists. Or then again I could be wrong and they may all end up like the Asian Dub Foundation!? What happened to them anyway? lol

2000 is definitely much stronger - but obviously some of the acts have grown significantly over the years. Oasis vs Muse looks an insanely tough choice for me now, but back in the day Muse only had Showbiz out which isn't that great an album.

What puzzles me most though is how Blink-182 have managed to climb from 5th to headliners, while Limp Bizkit have stayed down in 5th! Both bands were arguably at their peak round that time, have done little since, and both have recently made very well received returns to the live music scene. Limp Bizkit headlined Rock AM Ring last year and it looked awesome on youtube so why are they only 5th here this year when Blink are top of the bill? I wouldn't expect them to headline but still...

Blink didn't release TOYPAJ until a year later - this album included songs such as The Rock Show and First Date, which were and still are very popular songs. In 2003 Blink played as sub-headliners to Linkin Park, before releasing their self titled album a few months later. This album also did very well and had such hit singles as "Feeling this" and "I miss you" they split up just before being announced as Download headliners in 2005. They reformed last year and did a massive US tour with Weezer and FalloutBoy, and the Reading performance will be the first on the shores for around 6 years.

LB didn't release their biggest commercial success ("Chocolate Starfish...") until October 2000, 2 months after the festival, the hit their peak popularity around 2001-2003. They were booked to headline Download in 2003 but dropped out. Their album "Results May Vary" was not very well received and the band became a bit of a joke. Fred Durst being the way he was egotistically decided to release the following album with no promotion, on the theory that they didn't need to promote albums for them to sell - the album bombed and the band practically vanished until their triumphant return at Download last year, where they played 3rd behind Faith No More and Korn, and were later announce for Sonisphere where they played below Metallica and NIN (IIRC). They were outstanding at both, and were very well received.

Considering Lostprophets headlined Download in 08 and are 4th down on this years Reading bill, I'd say LB are in about the right place.
