The Alternative Stage

Seen some absolute dross acts on there, but some genius as well, John Cooper Clarke in '08 and Jack Whitehall in '09 were especially great!

Does anyone take time out to appreciate this stage? Who do you want to appear this year?

I'm hoping for Rich Hall, Reginald D Hunter, Frankie Boyle and Jason Mamford, any of those will do plus John Cooper Clarke (again), The Petebox and screenings of Exit Through The Gift Shop (Banksy's film) and Paranormal Activity

I spend most of my weekend there. Any time I want to sit down or if there is nothing on I go and have half a hour there

Expect up and coming people. R&L have a nack for getting the "next big thing" as a headliner just before they get popular.

Ive still, after 5 Reading's never set foot in that tent mind. I always want to see a band thats on at the same time as a Comedian I want to see.

tim minchin made my festival on that stage last year. would love flight of conchords as well but unfortunately too big...kevin bridges could be a good shout for headlining with john bishop as well, up and coming comedians turning bigish

I don't know what they this guy was called becuase me and my mates where just walking past but whoever he was he was a class act. He was using hypnosis and getting people from the crowd and putting them under. One of the acts he did that I can remember well was where he got a young lad from the stage and put him under and said that when he wakes up that he would be under the illusion that he was in the tent on his own smoking a joint. So he woke up and there he was smoking a joint (he actually was smoking a cig) The guy then put him back under and then said when he wakes up that he will realise that every body in the crowd was a police officer. He woke up and the guy's face was a picture. It got the laughs along with every other act he did, great show and im guessing that they didnt pay that much to get him.

Well worth a punt at going over to the alternative stage for an hour or two one day.

Hugh Lennon & Hypno Dog he is called. It is very funny. But get's a tad tedious when the dog comes out... which was a shame because i went just for the dog. I left half way through to see music. but yeah worth a watch.

I think Kevin Smith doing a live Smodcast at Reading would be so epic

Hes amazing. Seen him so many times, although his act doesnt change that much its still pretty sick watching him!

This is the tent I like the most in all honesty. Im a very lazy person, whenever theres a gap in the bands for me I always just head there, buy a drink and just sit and watch whoever or what ever is going on. Saves walking down to your camp and wasting the day. The festival lineup was so poor last year I think I saw more comedians than I actually did bands!

Im also hoping for a return of holly walsh, and others, but in all fairness bands come first, I wouldnt miss a band for a comedian unless I was feeling ill (Properly ill, not hungover), or if the band was doing a shit performance I may leave them.

Agreed, but won't happen. He wouldn't risked be being heckled by drunkards and he charges too much for live events.
