Hi I have just purchased a folding caravan that comes with beds awning and cooker. Its pretty sparce!

This is my first caravan and thus I have none of the extra luxuries that you pick up along the way!

Have decided to purchase a Leisure battery but what else is there?

What luxuries can yu caravaners not go without.

Porta potti? One of the main benefits is having the space for one of these and the headroom to use it properly :P

Pretty obvious but something to sit/eat on - you can get folding tables and chairs pretty cheap and they make all the difference when having your early morning brew

Lights - we have strings of blue LEDs for our awning which look really cool for a bit of the old ambience :P then you can hang rechargable lanterns or LED lights so you can find your way around.

Are you taking food? Do you need a cool box? If you're running from a leisure battery think carefully about what you'll be using that for - a portable fridge will drain that pretty damn quickly if you don't have a mains hook up which obviously you don't at Glastonbury.

Awning - depending on the weather you may decide you need picnic rug or two - if its muddy then you can step out of your grotty things onto one - if its sunny you can pop the awning open and have somewhere else to sit

The excellent thing is that you can take all kinds of junk to make your life more comfortable because you're going to be set up for a week so it makes it worthwhile lugging all your extra bits and bobs down with you

My main creature comforts for Glastonbury having also moved to caravanning are:

Awning carpet, table and chairs - great to have space to chill.

Duvet and pillows.

Extra clothes, boots etc as you don't need to carry them.

Igloo Ice Box keeps bacon and sausage and drinks cold for over 5 days without power, I freeze a 6 litre ice block.

Stovetop Expresso machine and milk frother for cappacinos.

Barbeque that doubles as a wood burner

Wind break

Battery operated fairy lights amd lanterns.

Enjoy! :P

Can you take folders to Glasto?? GUTTED! My folks had a folder, thought you had to have a fixed sink or something.

I'm not sure on the rules at Glasto over gas and all that, what's the score? Next year, I'm thinking about renting a caravan or maybe even buying one. I want to take my niece and it'd be much simpler to drive down and pitch a van. Just have to convince my disabled-pass father that he'd love Glasto to camp on site hahaha (JOKING :P)

So - porta potti, agreed. Be sensible and only use it for number ones at the big G! You'll get more use out of it - not sure if Glasto has a chemical toilet emptying type area. I still get emotional over the smell of toilet bloo...

Ice box and ice blocks. When you take your caravan to parks you can usually leave your ice blocks somewhere to refreeze. You don't want to be running a fridge off your battery, it'll kill it.

A TINY TINY 9v powered little tv. There's something surreal and magical about sitting in your van AT Glasto watching the tv coverage of the place you're at. Worth it just to do that for one night, grinning in your bed.

Blankets, plenty of extra clothes, clothes for all weathers - take advantage of the extra space. You could take a bigger camping gas cooker and cook outside, but you can take as much food as you can pack so take advantage of that - even if its just for a decent breakfast in the morning.

My folks had a rapido - they're great to put up. Never got to use it myself but put it up several times on the drive while they got used to it. A Passat will be grand with it, and its nice and low so you're not gonna have the same problems a big van has.

Take a spare groundsheet for the awning - doesn't have to be too expensive. You can throw it down over whatever you have out there when its muddy and take it away when it dries up. That is a hypothetical situation though because its going to be blistering sun!

Solar shower - you can lift up your ground sheet, set it up in your awning. AAAAH! Clean.

I am jealous.

You're posh :P

I'm seriously seriously tempted to get a caravan just for Glasto alone. We had one until I was about 14 then the folks went for a static in Burnham-on-sea for a while. Got too much hard work for them after that, which was a shame. I want an old Sprite Muskateer.
