But do you really think we won't get out of the group? Can't agree there - sorry.

I'm not convinced we'll get past the group, but neither am I convinced we won't.

I'm just not blindly believing in a team of far from excellent players (as they are as the England team), particularly when we have to play the USA who have a habit of beating us (ooooh, the shame), and the likes of Algeria who are more than capable of beating us.

Having said that, statistical analysis of England's performances in tournaments (including qualies & finals) defo says we won't get out of the group - tho that analysis doesn't take into account the actual players. But when you look at those players when wearing their England kits it gets hard to dismiss that analysis, because they generally play to around the standard of a Championship side.

Any hope of English success will come from generally unexpected quarters. A stunning tournament from Theo, or King staying fit (and with Rio injured) and him playing like we all know he can, or - most likely in my eyes (based on his impact in recent games) - the emergence of Milner as the best player for England (and perhaps one of the best players of the finals).

We don't have any hope thru the likes of Terry, Rio, Lumpard, Gerrard and very possibly Rooney*.

(*I've given Rooney a bit of leeway because he's had such a great season - if now was this time last year he'd have been a dead loss too).

Hey, I might be wrong. Whichever way it goes I get to smile. :P

Can you say the same? :P

Anybody on here live, lived or living in another country over a World Cup ?

I've always wondered what the hype is in, say Spain for example. Are the press there expecting them to win it?

Is it just our press that expect us to win every major tournament? Do the extremely high expectations have an effect on the team do you think? :P

If England get knocked out in the group stages or whenever, you get to smile because you were right?

Even if i predicted exactly when England exit the competition i wouldnt go around smiling about it.

Im not blindly expecting them to win, im well aware of the chances.

I still will get behind the team and cheer them on as far as they go. If/When they go out im not going to be celebrating,

When they go out I won't be celebrating either.

But I won't be surprised either, so will have no problem smiling. I won't be one of those nobheads who are stupidly believing we'll win when we very definitely won't.

You're forgetting one factor that - in my opinion - makes us stronger than we were in 2006 - Postman Pat. He's been able to get a lot more out of the players than Sven or McClown. I trust him more than I trust the players. He won't underestimate any side we play.

While there's been an improvement the improvement has been minimal - as seen in more than enough of his games in charge.

Same players, same system, same lacklustre performances all round.

The results under Postman Pat flatter the performances in nearly every game.
