pink_triangle
I'd agree that those 3 are the most likely players to produce a moment of outstanding ability that would enable them to win a game for their team all on their own. That's what I think a lot of people mean when they say wourld class. Edited July 12, 2010 by pink_triangle

Steve P
Thought this article summed up the general commentry and punditry at the world cup quite well LINK I especially like the line "Alan Shearer is never going to rate much higher than rickets in the nation's affections"
ralph250
So im not really criticising people calling rooney world class, as everyone sets the bar differently. I just think he has a lot to prove to reach the level of iniesta and xavi. I suppose a lot of its down to what football you predominatly watch. An Italian and english fan probably has very different perceptions of the ability of ibrahimovic and rooney. pink_triangle
Get the point, but probably not the greatest example. Rooney's got 10 goals in 12 against Italian opposition in the CL, so they probably rate him pretty highly. In fairness, Ibra's a better player than a lot give him credit for aswell. pink_triangle
but Fabregas whilst now having a World Cup and European Championship medal has only really played a bit part in both, and has gone missing in a fair few big games/rarely dominates big games at club level. ralph250
Im not sure you can say fabregas played a bit part in this world cup. He may not have started the games, however being someone who can come off the bench and change a game is an important role. Also in terms of his impact, he has a winning assist in a world cup final to his name. Very few players can say that. philipsteak
Just read something I hadn't realised before. Only one team didn't lose a single game The mighty All Whites. OK so 3 draws isn't the most exciting, but for a country who hadn't won a point before its not bad. And they improved on their goal difference from last time by 10. (from -10 to 0!) pink_triangle
Maybe bit part is a bit harsh but he only came on in 4 of the games, played about 130 mins all in all (less than 20% of Spains games). Granted he made an impact with the final assist and it was a great pick out but Holland had lost a man and was his fresh legs against Holland's tired ones (especially against the possession based Spanish). I'd have trouble using that one main impact as evidence of him being a big game player/proving his world class credentials, given the space at the end of the game. Don't get me wrong, I really rate the player, as do I Torres, just saying similar criticisms could be levelled at them sometimes similar to Rooney. Swiss Didn't come on Honduras 65th min sub (2-0 up, comfortable, no goals after) Chile 55th min (2-1 up, no goals after) Portugal didn't come on Paraguay 56th min (at 0-0) Germany didn't come on Holland 87th min (got the assist, against 10 men)

eFestivals
One for "the believers"..... Ladbrookes are currently offering 16-1 on England winning the next world cup. With you guys having such 'belief', it's the bargain of the century, and I'd imagine you'll be straight down the bookies putting everything you can afford (including your kids and grannie ) on England to win. Anything else would be stupid ..... wouldn't it?
