So England aren't as good as you think or expect them to be, so you find it funny when they make a mistake that costs them valuable points?

Yeah - you get the whole 'support' thing perfectly.

No, England aren't as good as *YOU* think or expect them to be.

They performed just about 100% to my expectations. Did they to yours?

I'd much rather that Green didn't f**k up as he did, but he did - and nothing of my reaction or your reaction to that changes it one iota.

Green's f**k up was funny - as you've already admitted it was.

I haven't suffered the same sense of humour failure over it that you have.

So to summarise:

  • You think England are shit

  • You don't think England will play any better than that

  • You thought Green's mistake was hilarious

  • You think that anyone who DIDN'T find Green's mistake hilarious hasn't got a sense of humour

Yet you still maintain you get the whole 'support' thing?

Will this winding up continue until England get knocked out?

1. correct.

2. it's possible, tho by going on what they've shown of themselves in the last two years or so, not hugely likely.

3. so do you.

4. you're the proof. :)

Your obviously a brilliant fan.

I'm Scottish and would love nothing more than England getting put out in the group stage but it's not going to happen.

And to call them s**t is clearly not true, they've not got the best team in the tournament but s**t? nah.

I am a brilliant fan. Just like any Scotland fan, I know England ain't gonna win. You get to be that brilliant fan by supporting teams that won't win anything - which is (for me) both England, and my club side.

And I agree, they're not "shit" - but with the England fantasists posting here, that's the easy description to put stuff in proper context. As proven on Saturday. :)

Neil - quote one post from this thread (or the main footy thread) stating that England will win the World Cup. Just one. You won't find one, because no-one has said we'll win it.

no, but plenty - including you - think we have a more than decent chance of winning it.

Let's see in a few weeks who was right, eh? :)

If we keep on playing much as we did in that first game then we've no chance at all.

I'll be surprised if we make the quarters, and I won't be surprised if we don't get out of the groups.

The only fantasist on here is the one saying we have 'no chance' and single handedly failing to grasp the most basic football knowledge. Someone who also claims that if England were to win it, it would be a disaster for this country.:lol:

I'm the guy who's been saying for nearly 20 years that the Prem will destroy football in this country - a view that is slowly coming true for the precise reasons I'd identified back then (denying roots football money, and the money in the Prem gravitating to a handful of clubs).

If there's added to that the view that football on this country is fine because we somehow win the WC then that situation will become even more entrenched than it already is.

Care to tell me where that's wrong?

Then you were years and years late.

All revenue for gate receipts for league games used to be split 50:50 between the home and away team. This was stopped years ago (in the 70s I think). This was at a time when gate receipts made up a huge percentage of a team's income - way before TV and advertising was a significant proportion.

Splitting the money evenly ensured the smaller teams with smaller grounds and smaller attendances didn't lose out so much money on a weekly basis to the big boys. Taking the split away ensured the bigger boys got richer and the poorer ones got poorer. Way before the inception of the Premier League.

Yep, I was quite possibly years and years late if what you say is true. That change would have been no less of a nail in the coffin of football as the bad ideas I spotted with the advent of the Prem.

I guess the reason I didn't pick up on that at the time it happened (if it happened in the 70s as you say) would have been to my age at the time.

It takes two teams for any match, with either team as needed as the other. I know that many Man Utd fans would be happy winning a league of one each year and would feel incredibly proud of their club for that 'win', but thankfully the world is not only made up of that type of fan ... sadly, there's still far too many of them. :(

I believe I might have been slightly out on the date. On second thoughts it may well have been early 80s, but the point remains.

Also, it might not have been technically a 50:50 split. Have a feeling might have been something like 40%, 40%, 20%, with the two clubs taking 40% and the Football League taking 20%.

You get the point

Yep, I get the point - there was defo a percentage to the league &/or FA, and there is still is (tho far lower since the Prem).

It (the equal split to the clubs) still exists for the FA Cup, doesn't it? Or have they stopped it in the last decade or so?

(I know it continued to work that way for some years after the Prem started, but aren't sure of the situation now).

Didn't think they were unlucky tbh- that game was just utter dross mate. Both teams seemed to pass it around the middle, play a sloppy pass then the other team would pass it around the middle before playing a sloppy pass- nothing really exciting happened. Algeria had a man stupidly sent off and the goal, as I'm sure you've seen, came from a goalie error and one of only about half a dozen shots on goals.
