Lock-up

I was hoping for a little bit more, but meh...

The Lock-Up last year saved the festival for me, but this year the main stage is awesome anyway, so it aint so bad. Its all gonna depend on timings and who they clash with.

Might have to see Cancer Bats, Against Me, Streetlight, and I'll check out a few of the earlier ones I aint heard of for the Friday.

Get Up Kids then the end of Arcade Fire: What a result!

The get up kids have always been one of my favourite bands. 'Something to write home about' is a masterpiece, my favourite album ever written and 'On a Wire' is just brilliant.

Ill admit, if you dont know the songs you wont enjoy them live. Like most bands, the songs can sound very samey. They are not awesome live, but the quality of their tracks more than make up for it. The singalong factor alone makes them a must see.

Id recommend 'Dont Hate Me', 'Martyr Me', 'Holy Roman', 'Walking on a wire', 'Let the reigns go loose' and anything of 'Something to Write home about' as a good starting point.

Not too fussed with the rest of the lock up but I was honestly hoping it wouldnt be too good. Going to Leeds so Nme stage friday with a jump to Get up kids and Arcade Fire, and Main stage Saturday Sunday. I spent so much time running between stages last year I was exhausted.

Streetlight Manifesto, Zebrahead, Bad Religion & Alkaline Trio... thats the best the lock up stage has to offer this year... no where near as good as last year but Streetlight will still be awesome!

Alkaline Trio over GnR

Bad Religion over Arcade Fire (easily)

Not so depressed when I look at it like that!

Gutted that i'll have to decide between Bad Religion and Arcade Fire.

Seeing Get up Kids at the cockpit so not too fussed about them.

Looking forward to Against Me, hopefully be a better crowd than they normally get at Leeds Fest. At their last cockpit gig in Leeds they commented how there crowd at Leeds Fest was always pretty terrible compared to playing the centre of Leeds. Fingers crossed they don't play too much new stuff too...

The only reason I can see the lock-up being so poor is due to the nuber of lock-up styled bands on the main stage, and surprisingly, the NME stage.

Just looking at the Line-up: NoFX probably turned down the double shift, Billy talent headlined the tent last year, arguably the Young guns and/or A day to remember could have been slotted in there. on the saturday Rolo tomassi could have been in there somewhere, Frank turner and/or Serj could have been 2/3rd in the lock up.F inally The King Blues and Thrice on the sunday.

Looks like they've just decided to share the wealth around this year. Yhe lock up does look slightly weaker this year but if they can add glassjaw or capdown it would improve the saturday immensly. That being said however Against Me, Get Up kids and Sick of It all, Ace bookings.

it's strange for me as I love a lot of the headline bands Trio, BR Against Me! in particular. but I still think it's a bit weak. I love Alkaline Trio but they played second two years ago and are no bigger now. Trio under Rancid and Lagwagon under BR and that Lock-up looks a whole lot better! Dance tent is poo. I guess there's no pleasing me. two of my favourite bands are playing headline slots that don't clash with anyone else I want to see and I still whinge :P

Mike Davies said Capdown wont play, cause one of them is getting married that weekend. He also said basically Rancid will never play, as they simply don;t have the money for them.

He said there will be one special guest that is very exciting, who will make you shit yourself, and I think he said another guest followed by the word double duty. Thrice or Cokie the clown it is.

Only one of two bands would cause me to figuratively "shit myself" by appearing on the Lock-up stage, either an At the Drive In or Refused reunion. Neither of these will happen for various reasons therefore I'm going for Glassjaw, playing second under bad religion, even though R+L would be breaking exclusivity rules.

Double duty, I'm guessing a band on the day where the lockup has 10 bands. So Gaslight anthem or Rolo Tomassi. Frank turner is the only other real contender and he is probably playing too high up on the NME stage for double duty.
