j-j-j-j-joe!
Anyone want to reccomend a campsite thats not ages away but avoids the worst of the trouble? My friend was on green last year and wasn't bothered, but he left at two in the morning, so he might have missed it. I'm at reading, not leeds by the way. Edited May 27, 2010 by j-j-j-j-joe! Lithium05
It's a bit of a lottery really. The place I always camp is usually untouched by the riots, but last year it was right in the middle of it. Literally, the telegraph pole five feet from my tent was torn down, and the "angry mob" were burning peoples shit all around us (stopped as much as I could, but there were 20+ of the c*nts!) Dave The Hedgehog
Whenever I was struggling to work out which camp to.... errrrr camp in, I was torn between Red & Blue, and I realised that the only reason I'd think about staying in Red was because it was nearer the car park, and eventually I settled on Blue. Here's my thread on the Leeds board; it might be helpful: /index.php?showtopic=145363">http://www.efestivals.co.uk/forums/index.p...howtopic=145363 Not too far away from the arena, not too far away from the car park, plenty of time and space to soak up the festival vibe, a decent place to get some rest when you need it and a whole field away from the noise and trouble in Orange. ap3311
The only way to guarantee to be away from all the trouble is to camp in White. But it's miles from the arena and has no atmosphere. The worst of it tends to change from year to year but as I understand it Red, Green and Orange are traditionally riot central. some dude
now i never went last year, but did red for the previous three years before that, and my reason for continually going back was that it was generally quiet and a good atmosphere (though about 20 min walk from arena, which is annoying as your literally adjacent to the main stage), but in 08 i did notice it seemed to have lost its family camping reputation and i noticed a bit more trouble, but still nothing like what i witnessed walking through other campsites. but yeh sounds like its a lottery now adays
mjsell
Last year, at reading, we camped in orange - but it was right on the border of yellow. It was actually a great spot because we had a burger van about 20m away, a water tap right next to that and a fire tower on the gate between yellow and orange (about 15-20m away). On the Sunday night it all kicked off in yellow - literally 30-40m away but orange was absolutely fine. At about 2 in the morning we bagan a small campfire because it was freezing cold but the security men at the gate(fire tower) came over with fire extinguishers and put it out - then stamped on it for good measure It was a bit extreme at the time, but thinking about it now all the massive fires would have started as just small ones. My advice is dont camp in yellow - and try and get a spot pretty near to a fire tower for that added safety. Ive heard green, purple and orange are the best for atmosphere without c**ts. ska_4_life
Easy if your at reading. Camp in Red campsite. Im quoting some dude, but cant be bothered to do it properly but he said... "now i never went last year, but did red for the previous three years before that, and my reason for continually going back was that it was generally quiet and a good atmosphere (though about 20 min walk from arena, which is annoying as your literally adjacent to the main stage), but in 08 i did notice it seemed to have lost its family camping reputation and i noticed a bit more trouble, but still nothing like what i witnessed walking through other campsites." Red camp all the way for no trouble. Its right next to Red Entrance = Easy shopping trips through out the weekend Unless you are leaving the site, you cannot get to any other campsites through red, this means no large angry mobs come this way. And if they do, they soon get bored and walk off. Near the Fun Fair. Near the Silent Disco. Unfortually it is about a 15/20min walk (Can do it in 10min if your lucky with the crowds) to the arena entrance. But as Somedude said, you are right near the arena and dependent on which end of the camp you set up, you can here the Mainstage or NME tents pretty well from your campsite. A bonus less your wanting an early night. Anouther technique I have found, is if you camp in Yellow right next to the arena, but make sure your camp is along the back of the burger vans, you dont get much trouble and are 2 mins away from the arena. You will need an early entry pass for this though and get there early If anyone is worried about the sunday nights I have never had any problem in Red. What I did last year though was camp in the middle of the riot zone, pack up all my stuff, and go visit friend's camps then head home when it gets too stressfull, luckily I live in Reading so I have that extra option. Assuming your not a local, go for red camp.
Tom1889
Camped in Orange for two years (Leeds), but just on the border of Green near the trees. Decent distance from everything, choice of two toilet areas (Orange and Green) and even though Orange does get some trouble, you're well away from it. j-j-j-j-joe!
Hm, I'm getting very mixed messages. Some are saying red is the best, while others are saying its riot central! Anyone want to clarify?

rockinthecasbah
No-one's mentioned purple either way yet- we had no problems there last year. I'd have thought camping round the edge of fields would also probably be a good tactic, though that's more of a guess than anything. And previous suggestions of near a fire tower sound good. j-j-j-j-joe!
Thanks guys (except the guy who told me to f**k myself for no reason;carming mate, its people like you im worried about). So basically, any of the campsites, but around the edges and near to a tower.

j-j-j-j-joe!
Okay, thanks for the advice. When I get there, i'll check out Purple, Green and Orange and see which one I like the look of. Around the edges seems like agood idea as well. I'm staying well away from Red and Yellow.Ps I notice no ones mentioned brown for either side, but judging from the map it looks to be ages away.
