Bog standard response from Obama: "tragic.... thoughts with the family.....lets all come together as Americans" etc etc.

Meanwhile, in Walmart in Denver (a fucking supermarket no less!), any old wally can go in and buy this.

Caliber: 5.56mm or .223 Rem. Magazine Capacity: 30 Rounds (accepts all M16 type)

For $800!! :banghead:

Or how about some full metal jacket ammo?

US mass shootings

  • Nov 2009: US Army psychiatrist Maj Nidal Malik Hasan allegedly kills 13 people at the Fort Hood base in Texas.

  • April 2009: Vietnamese immigrant Jiverly Wong, 41, shoots dead 13 people at a New York state immigration centre.

  • March 2009: After compiling a "hit list", Michael McLendon, 28, kills 10 people, including his mother and uncle, in two Alabama towns.

  • April 2007: South Korean student Seung-Hui Cho, 23, guns down 27 fellow students and five staff at Virginia Tech university.

  • July 1999: Stock trader Mark Barton, 44, shoots his wife and two children at his Atlanta, Georgia home then kills nine in city's business district.

  • April 1999: Eric Harris, 18, and Dylan Klebold, 17, kill 12 students and a teacher at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado.

The learning curve here is taking a while to reach its peak. Taking a long long time.

Guarantee you neither candidate will touch the gun control laws coming into the election.

In fact, they're considering relaxing the gun laws and making it easier to get guns. They think its a good idea for more people to have guns!

shooting guns is so much fun though!

shot Revolvers, Glocks, Assault riffles, a pump action shot gun, desert eagle and an Uzi 9mm. My local gun club has some bad ass sniper rifles, going to have a go on one of them before I leave.

fricking love it

You should try it sometime Tony. I really didn't think I'd like it before I tried it, but it gives you such an adrenaline rush. Spend an hour shooting up some targets with some big ass guns and it really gets the blood pumping.

I had a load of mates come in from England a few weeks back and I took them shooting, a couple of them were up for it, most of them were like my first time and were nervous and a bit hesitant, but all of them absolutely loved it

yeah of course. I'm not saying I agree with gun laws in the states. In fact I'm the opposite, I think they're a fucking disaster. I'd much rather have the UK's gun laws.

I'm just saying that guns are a lot of fun to shoot (at targets in a controlled safe environment).

Erm...isn't that precisely why guns are a bad idea? The guns actually producing an adrenaline/testosterone rush, since these are associated with aggressive behaviour?

Add a stressful situation into the equation, and your fight/flight mechanism goes into meltdown...

I'm sure they are. I think that's part of the problem though - there's a risk of the high affecting your judgment. Imagine someone with a grievance - they feel they've been a victim, of circumstance, bullied, whatever. Put a gun into their hands, and that feeling of powerlessness evaporates into that heady rush. That feeling of power, dominance, and aggression. That makes them feel so good, contrasting with their previous feelings of helplessness, and inspires action. What form is their action likely to take? And they'll feel vindicated, because they'll be on a high, physically and morally (as far as they can see).

It appears the guy was pretending to be the Joker, which suggests he has serious problems (although the whole going into a cinema and shooting at people probably suggested that first)

Nothing will change in America, as Ed has pointed out, it seems to be an accepted bi-product. But the argument that 'its not guns that are killing people' is simply ludicrous.

That being said:

They should be cold enough by now

I am losing respect for a lot of people I used to game with from America over this, just constant comments and "funny" pictures about protecting gun laws and how its not guns that kill people, just average people who otherwise fairly liberal.

Apparently the criminals will still have guns, so we should just make sure it is easy for them to pick up a few...

No wonder politicians out there won't touch it!
